It seems to link with whatever country you live in,ordering at the ubi site. For me,it takes me to a link where I can buy the CE or download, people from other countries get routed to their own countries ubi site.
Really, its a joke of a situation for such a long anticipated game.Bloody weird way to sell a game, making it impossible to buy in a lot of countries, and I hate to say it,but its just this sort of thing that encourages piracy.
But,when we heard ubi was in charge in the west, did we really expect anything different?

More than one person has commented to me "I was thinking of getting it but if its only available by download then why not just wait for the cracked version on bit-torrent".

I completely disapprove of piracy in any form but its easy to see how such stupid marketing might tempt the less scrupulous to go that way.

This is exactly why I havent bothered even pre-ordering it at all...

who knows what version (download or hardcopy), when and where this game will be release???
ubi has only mentioned a d/l version. no US game sites have it even listed as a "coming soon"...

Im waiting for the "omg they changed my pre-order to april 19!!" thread.

What it really amazing is only last week the Ubisoft CEO was quoted as saying that UBI actually LOSES money on its online digital games which makes you wonder about the download only market segment as well:

Hmm... lets see... It cost $90 bucks for a Hard Copy.... or $90 bucks for a Digital copy.... and they lose money for digital version... when there is not loss of stock , transport fees , 3rd party sellers...etc

... So they do this for the joy of giving..

Ubisoft is Santa.... I can smell a little BS here...( yes...I read the story... the BS remark is not at you WTE_Galway.... thx for the link)

When my order was cancelled with Boostep, the shop actually included the forwarded message they received from Ubi:

"IL2: Cliffs of Dover Collector's Edition
----------

Due to a failure in the manufacturing of several components for IL2: Cliffs of Dover ?I am sorry to inform you, that Ubisoft not will be able to deliver this product as ?requested and furthermore we will not start up the manufacturing again.
I have arranged to have the standard version exclusively for the ?Nordic countries only due to the fact this version only was meant to ?be a downloadable version.
I apologize for the inconvenience this may have cost you and customers.
?Ubisoft Nordic A/S"

It seems that the screw up was indeed linked to the manufacturing of the boxes for the Nordic countries, but I'm not trusting any CE pre order for now, especially not EB Games - just wait a little bit and we'll learn that "manufacturing problems" (a good term for chaotic and improvised planning) occured and the Australian release is delayed for 6 months. Besides, EB Games is not listing anything at all for the moment.

I'll stick with dowload versions for now.

Having one of my relatives who's studying in the UK order and pick it up for me is becoming more and more attractive each day.

It seems the only way to get a collector's edition is to log into their webshop with a UK-based IP address and specify a UK land address for them to ship to. However, the most embarrassing thing is that there's not even a regular boxed edition available for most countries.

Well, we still have 25 days to go, let's see what happens.

Hmm, just had my dummy spit in another thread after Boostep advised the CE was cancelled.

I just contacted EB Australia: Confirmed the CE edition is available for $109.95(AUS) but no release date as yet.

It's not currently listed on their customer site but you can pre-order in store as it's listed on their internal database.

UBI Shop Australia only has the download version available.

Well to be fair the "digital" games they are referring to are the free to play MMP online facebook style games like Evony, Mafia Wars etc. In these games whilst you can play for free, the special "items" etc you need to get ahead only pop up rarely and they make their money by selling players these special items.

The CoD equivalent would be if the game was free to download and play online but access to better aircraft etc needed to be unlocked by collecting "medals".

The "medals" would randomly popup occasionally after an air to air victory online (maybe once in 10 or 20 kills) but you might need to play for a month or two to get enough to get a Spitfire (you start with only the Gladiator). However all is not lost as the kindly developers have been considerate enough to offer you a medal pack for only $20 allowing you to get a more competitive plane straight away. Of course medals bought cannot be transferred between servers.

Eventually even though the games are "free to play" you spend more than buying a game outright to remain competitive.

Meh, let see, the CE edition for 110 bucks or the download version at 48 bucks via GetGame... I wanted the CE edition, but I'm not supporting EB or any Aussie shop that charges us ludicrous prices (but cry and make a drama when we find ways to acquire our games at a realistic price).
