Definitely too political. I'm also probably completely unfair (taking the quote out of context - which is always tempting with such strong quotes).

I certainly didn't mean to imply that you were pampered or authoritarian (even though I seem to have). I'm sorry if my glib and harsh reply was rude or disrespectful in any way.

When the democratisation program began in England, there were about 200 crimes for which capital sentences could be awarded (and a women had been burned at the stake in 1790 for counterfeiting). On the whole democracies have much more moderate laws (perhaps because the government is seen as more legitimate).

A lot needs to be said for trust, self-discipline, cultural values, ties of mutual respect, thankfulness and broader social pressure.

A lot of individual people don't behave as they should, but typical behaviour in a society, and what values groups hold, can mean the difference between the military taking over or democratic opposition being respected. There are a lot of cases where fear of the law wouldn't prevent people from acting out (but other things do).

A lot of small societies (eg. indigenous peoples) don't have anything like a modern legal system, but are still able to regulate behaviour.

You cannot have positives without negatives existing !

Just ban any OTT posters for a few days..

Anyway it makes my laugh seeing how some people carry on !!

I think a certain amount of useful material is garnered occasionally from some of the outlandish wish posts...or that an unintentional idea could be taken at a tangent from some of them.

as to the nattering and bashing that goes on well...I think people are quick enough to recognize and dismiss those (another definition of R&D) so I doubt they cause Oleg or Ilya much distress at all - they're big boys and can handle an open forum warts and all be sure.

I don't care for the suggestion to make those threads available by 'invite only' because it is pure cheese -

You think Oleg and company don't already have a close association with their own inner band of talented, experienced artists, historians, fliers, and engineers??? Thats where the 'closed' or 'invite only' development threads are...

They only come here for our sake to keep us in the loop like no other software development team in history (this is a huge part of the way they 'market' their sim)
...if they happen to get an idea or two they had not considered before so much the better.

but don't fool yourself into thinking that they might miss some brilliant idea of yours here in this forum because of the roughage that accumulates in the specific threads you refer to...thats just ridiculous

Oleg and Luthier both know how to use the IGNORE LIST feature of this site.

If and when either of them thinks that reading smeone's junk postings become to obnoxious they know what to do.

Mostly, since they are adult men they just pass over the junk and move on to better things.

If you are put on their IGNORE LIST you can count on NEVER receiving any kind of answer from them, even if you do make a sensible post.

------------------------------

There is another way moderators can keep the update threads ON TOPIC. It is very simple, set all posts in the thread to go into a moderation queue.

Moderators can set ANY thread for moderation queue with a couple of simple clicks of the mouse.

Don't think moderators aren't tempted to use this method of moderation when a bunch of junk postings have to be deleted. LOL

Then of course everyone posting has to wait until a moderator has read and approved each posting in made in the thread before it is published.

Everyone also means Oleg's and Luthier's postings would have to be approved as well. Moderators cannot pick or choose members for moderation of a thread, only the thread. This would mean everything and eveyone one would slow down considerably.

I think is healthy to have some negative opinions, it is not all "wow wonderful", there are many things that could be improved ( but not all the weeks you have to repeat it )

Thank you.

I've looked up Rodrigues - do you think he would be interesting to read?
