I have IL-2 Sturmovik from several years ago that I recently started playing but decided to downloaded and installed IL-2:1946.
Could someone answer a couple of quick beginner questions? 1) The training flights on IL2:1946 won't let me take control. They play then quit (unlike in IL-2 Sturmovik original where after watching you can then take control and practice). Is this normal such that I should go back to the original to get familiar with the techniques and controls? 2) My IL-2:1946 ver is 4.07m and I see 4.10m is out. Can I patch with it or should I install the intermediate patches? Thanks, RedStarOverRussia |

1) Training Tracks no longer have this feature. It became difficult to keep after flight models changed.
2) You need the intermediate patches in this order: 4.08, 4.09, 4.09 skinpack (replaces some old default skins with better ones) and finally 4.10. A bug-fix patch, 4.101 is due for release soonish. You can still get the patches at Mission4Today (others are apparently corrupt). You must register to be able to download: 4.08: http://mission4today.com/index.php?n...etails&id=1908 4.09 Guide: http://mission4today.com/index.php?n...etails&id=3742 4.09: http://mission4today.com/index.php?n...etails&id=3764 4.09 (Russian): http://mission4today.com/index.php?n...etails&id=3763 4.09 skin-pack: http://mission4today.com/index.php?n...etails&id=3761 4.10 Guide: http://mission4today.com/index.php?n...etails&id=3996 4.10: http://mission4today.com/index.php?n...etails&id=3993 4.10 (Russian): http://mission4today.com/index.php?n...etails&id=3994 Last edited by Romanator21; 02-04-2011 at 05:48 AM. |

1. I'm pretty sure that the training missions are reference only at this point. I haven't even watched one in years, but they used to work but became hard to maintain. It seems to me that they are only there for information now, and the rest of the learning process is up to you. I like it because it helps me learn from my mistakes. The best thing to do is open up the "Quick Mission Builder," pick your plane, set target to scramble and hit fly. But you need at least v4.09m for that option i believe. I suggest updating first thing!

Make sure you have a clean install of the game before installing the patches to make sure things work out right. Then you can move on to putting in mods, but i can't tell you exactly how, it's something you have to figure out yourself. Hope this helps! Welcome to the wonderful world of IL-2! ![]()

Thank you Romanator21 and Tacoma74!
The links and explanation of the order of patches to install are most helpful. Disappointing about the training missions but understandable - it's not a problem to run the old missions while learning the controls. IL-2 is challenging but a lot of fun! RedStarOverRussia |
