Great project!
I'm curious though, the FFB2 controller is capable of high frequency oscillations that match the motors. You'll probably lose some of those vibrations due to the inertia of your big motors. I'm very interested in your "amplifiers". Please note that you might need two big car batteries in series for the 24V, if only for the extra power when needed, for there aren't many cheap power converters that can handle the load of those motors.
I've thought of this too, but just a stick to the floor. But instead of using gears like the original I would choose cables for the forces, use a ball joint instead of the cradle, and underneath two forks connected to the pots on the base, the other side sliding over the steel shaft of the stick. Since I have three sets of two 12V FFB motors I would choose them to wind the cables, the ratio's would be dependent on the height of fixation on the stick shaft, which would be adjustable (just like the height of the pots btw).
