Default Force Feed Back question to the designers

After asking question in a few places ,I got no answers so I decided to ask /answer some topics about FFB

1 Question to Oleg or the design team :

Will BOB handle FFB as in IL2
If not ....How ???
Some details would be very welcome..

2 Topics

The action of the trims
Il2 selects the POSSIBLE trims in accord with the aeroplane used
That is correct ,although it applies the trims inside the program

To apply the trims from the stick the trim should act directly to "fight" the need to force on the stick as in real life

In order to do so and be realistic the program should set or reset the trimming FEATURES for the ailerons, elevators and rudder otherwise ALL trims would be available , anyway if one add HARWARE trims to a stick it is at the moment in IL2 possible to have all bells and whistles trimwise
But if the stick feeds in the trims data without altering the value of the input of the stick axes it is possible to avoid cheating

Meaning 2 separate inputs to the progam per AXIS
Elevators Elevators trim
Ailerons Ailerons trim
Rudder Rudder trim

The trimming features being enabled or disabled by the program depending of the aeroplane flown

Except if the trims are applied on the input of the axis(3 axis inputs only)
in which way the cheaters will prevail
Let us all who enjoy reality go our way and ignore them .

Note the IL2 itself had a FIXED rudder trim for one flying setting only

I hope I did not make any mistake in my assessment, else I apologise to the purists
Have a good year all

For starting, I have to proclaime I am a FFB absolute fan from the very begining, the MicroProse's EAW and Jane's WWII Fighters times.

Unfortunately, Oleg, forcefeedbackwise, has never been too keen - if not totally opposed to - to it's deployment in his sims because, as he has many times stated, it is not a 'realistic' feature for him. And therefore he is not in favour of it. As if any other in this sim were totaly realistic!. They all are in some degree, as FFB could be, if given the chance.

But, AFAIK, and given I haven't perceived any change in his attitude - correct me if I am wrong, please - sadly, I advice you to better forget about any change or improvement on FFB features in SoW. Only the HW makers, like Microsoft - sadly out of business long time ago after its magnificent Sidewinder series - or Logitech - with its lately not so troublesome G940 due to a Christmas firmware update - keep standing the forcefeedback's pole up.

To get the features you ask for from Oleg, all data required should be included and make accesible from the sim's engine to the HW makers to reproduce those effects on their sticks. And sincerely, I repeat, Oleg, IMHO, won't move a single finger to ease their availability.

Anyway, let's keep hoping Christmas magic may make its effect on him this time.

Happy new SoW expecting year!

Yep, thanks for refreshing my memory about the Paccu's Hawk. It's an old project I have high hopes on. And great news are, if you browse a bit their web site, they expect to produce the first FFB pedals in the world!

Go Paccus!

FFB pedals are nice, but will there be support for it? I'm building my own pedals and use an old, obsolete MS FF2 for the interface. I could even incorporate the motors for producing vibrations but there is no way in IL2 to send signals to two FFB devices, plus the effects on pedals would be very different compared to stick.

Some fresh news about the Paccus hydraulic joystick. For those living at or travelling to the UK on 14th&15th May you'll have a chance so see face to face Paccus' Hawk joystick.

It will show up at UK's biggest flightsim week-end at Helicopter Museum, Weston Super Mare.

This is the announcement from the PAccus team:

"Dear pilot,

Do you remember we were working on realistic force feedback for your flightsims and games?

Not the kind of tickling in your hand, but a real force.
Not a faint feeling but realistic power.
Not some plastic toy but a solid aluminium stick.

Imagine how your flightsim experience changes if you can feel the wind on your ailerons and elevator.
Can you imagine how your shooter game experience changes if you feel the recoil like it's real?

It took time to create this perfect experience in a high quality and durable joystick.
And it is available very soon in a limited edition!

This weekend you can try the hydraulic force feedback at the UK's biggest flight sim weekend in Weston-super-Mare (near Bristol).
Check http://fscweston.co.uk for all details.

Next week we'll send you an impression of this event so keep an eye on your mailbox.

If you want to be sure you'll have your own Hawk within weeks, just send us an e-mail and you can be the first on our list.

with kind regards from the Paccus-team,
Ariella Bijl
www.paccus.com

P.S.: Share this e-mail with your friends so they too can benefit from this unique opportunity!

Paccus Joysticks - fast, precise and durable."

Looks like this piece of HW is closer than ever to get to the market, finally.

Engadin.
