Default Defending the Vessel

I need some help in the single mission "Defend the Vessel". No matter what I do, I eventually fail. I try sending my wingmen after the bombers, then the escorts when they show up, but no matter what, myself and my wingmen get shot to pieces. And since this mission is "tactical control", once all my wingmen are gone I have no further attempts.

Can anyone suggest a good tactic to use to clear this mission? Also, is it just me, or are the enemies in missions MUCH tougher and more aggressive than they are in training, even set to "veteran" level?

Aaaarrrrrrgh! This mission is still giving me fits! No matter what I do, my wingmen get shredded, and then I'm on my last plane in a battle of attrition. I slowly take damage in the fights, and the bombers just keep coming... it seems like there is no end to them. I fought this mission for 45 minutes this morning, to no avail, since I eventually succumbed to damage. Can anyone give me any strategy tips to get through this one? I really would like to complete all the single missions.

I find it strange that none of the typical cheat sites (IGN, etc) have any mission walkthroughs posted for this game...

There was some good info there! I play on the PS3, so the trophy link was very useful, thanks a lot! I appreciate the help, and any info you can give me on the mission, once you refresh your memory, will be greatly appreciated.

Ok, it's day 3 on this mission, still no luck. I finally make it to the last bomber on the map, after 30 minutes or so, but my plane is too badly damaged to hold speed or altitude... bomber simply flys away and I hit the water... Is it just me? I admit, my gunnery skills aren't what they should be, but everyone complains about other missions (hornet's nest, etc.), but no one mentions this one. I just wish I knew what I was doing wrong. It's making me so frustrated that I'm tempted to put the game away for a while.

i beet it in the first time by shooting the bombers myself. Just kinda climb up behind and below the bomber and let it fly right into your rounds. Instant fireball. Keep doing that and the mission should be a success

WOOOOOT!!!! I finally completed this mission! This time, my wingmen seemed to hold it together, and we nailed 'em all, and I finished the mission (with a badly shot-up plane). Thanks for all the help, guys.
