Default Spitfire graphical shortcut

Don't know why I didn't spot this sooner but has anyone noticed the spitfire mk 16 uses the mk 9 model at mid distance? I was chasing a spit on cta the other day and it was a mk 9 until I got closer and I saw it visibly change to a mk 16. Looks like devs shortcutted on the model at mid to long distance. It was weird seeing the wing tips change shape on approach. Anyone spotted this with another fighter?

Yeah i've noticed it before, i remember it quite clearly as i recall spotting a mkIX and as i gained on him it magically turned into the XVI, i was rather confused and had completely forgot about it until you brought it up.

Not noticed it with any other aircraft yet though, im guessing they did the same with the La series

With the XVI you'll notice if your in cockpit view, your actually in the IX cockpit. If you rotate your ehad and look behind you you'll clearly see the radio antenna on the fuselage and also the lack of a teardrop canopy.

Ah well.

Yep saw this myself. I got confused myself. It was in similar circumstances but with me I spotted a Spit IX diving into a cloud off my port side and turned to chase. I punched out of the clouds and saw a Mk XVI in a shallow climbing turn and I was a like "Where did that IX go to then? He must have looped in behind me" and was looking for a target when there was nothing there.

It wasn't till I actually had a training mission in a Me109 against MkXVI spits that I realised It was a graphical shortcut.

This lack of attention to anything is getting me a little frustrated.

I think I may trade in this game. Wings of Prey has more attention to detail but even it makes blatant mistakes.

Back to IL-2 1946 for me. Peace out, ladies and gentlemen.

Yeah, noticed that. Can be a little disorienting at times. Usually, it doesn't matter much though, because I'm shooting at Spitfires anyway.

It has actually made me forget which plane I was chasing a few times. Its kind of funny to think about it.

GRRRRR!!!! The Spit pilots must be working on some sort of cloaking device! So far they have gotten the wingtips to disapear! Warning to all other Luftwaffe pilots: BEWARE!!

The amount of detail they paid to the maps has made up for all the small things like disappearing wingtips. After five months of playing, Im sill astonished by things you can find on the ground. I heard that one of the guys on the dev team spent two years in his basement demodernizing satelite imagery.

If you're ever bored, choose one of the maps (Dover and Berlin are best) in the game and open up google maps. It's crazy. Maybe Im just easily enterntained.

Yeah, they can do that, but then they forget to add brakes to the joystick layout and don't test enough to determine that crashes don't credit the responsible opponent. Very sloppy, IMHO.

Good call out, guys. I would have never noticed this. This is good stuff to know, since the only thing you'll see these days is Spitfires. And you'll be shooting them down. In your Spitfire. My IL-2 shirts all have Spitfires on them. They must have released them knowing what was going to happen ahead of time. I'd love to fly against a He-162, or a Hurricane, or an La-7/La-5, or Bf-109 series, or...hell, anything. Anything, other than ten player rooms with nine Spitfires.

My apologies.
