Good subject. I agree with you completely Kozzm0. I have no idea how the dang leaderboard keeps scores. I know one thing though, those guys in the upper ranks are damn good! I got into several scrapes the past couple days with some of them and just couldn't believe how fast those guys killed me. I could barely even see them. let alone get any lead in them. I can tell you this. I got some good shots several times and within 20-30 seconds they crashed and I got no kill. That was frustrating, to say the least, but certainly not enough to condemn the game or protest it. When you fly your ass off against top notch competition and 1 or 2 kills can make a difference, yeah, it can be irksome. And yes, I do like to see my handle rising on the boards!!!! Competitive is the word. I coached baseball and football for 11 years and losing doesn't feel good. I want to make clear, though, most on this forum are adult about it and in the end, fun is the name of the game! Assholes are everywhere though. I ignore them and keep playing anyway.

I agree. I guess I'm a fairly competative person in that I want to end the games with a respectable score, but if I do have a bad game and come last against better players/team then I can accept that. What I find hard to accept is being cheated in any game, which is basicaly what BoP is doing to you when it says your kill has just crashed. Also as Ive said before, I like to boom and zoom rather than fly in circles.

Example: I'm already at a disadvantage that my planes, the Fw190 and P-51D are too slow and handle quite poorly and the circle flyers can turn forever without blacking out. I spot two spitfires in a slow circle and swoop down and boom on one of the spitfires. the closing distance could be 400+mph. I get one chance to time my firing correct. I fire and hit the spits wing and I watch it go into a spin as it disapears far behind me. A few seconds later I get a message telling me that the spitfire has crashed!. Now about 70% of the time I miss the target with my guns, so when I do get it right I want it to mean something. By the end of the game I've got about 5 kills with only one counting and 2 deaths. My team has lost. At the end of the game the guy with the most points on the winning side in the spit that I shot down comments to the guy on my team that killed the most, "Dude you didn't get much help from your team mates did you" Both these guys have over 10 crashes each. Is that fair??

Now I will still play the game because I love it, But I still get angry with it and need to vent in posts now and then, lol sorry If they sound a bit childish.

IMO most men, and especially gaming men, are competitive. There are scores for nearly every kind of game you can think of. And of all the thing begging for a score, it's thing being simulated in which they actually kept scores for real...

Don't get me wrong - I haven't checked the leaderboards for a long time, but I don't like to see myself on the bottom of the end of game scoreboard. I think the better you get at something, the more it matters.

But just a reality check: the patch does not entirely fix this issue. If you clip a spitfire's wings at 10m and he instantly spirals into the ground, it can still more often than not register as a crash not a kill...

P.S: +several to Winny's post.

I like to get credit if im the pilot that brought down another pilot. I do agree that even if you shot a plane into the ground it still feles good too even if no credit is given. Be patient the game update will be here when the time is right.

What is the deal with the scoring system anyway?

I've seen end of TDM results where two players got an identical amount of kills/crashes and yet one of them has more points.

I'd imagine people care about scores because they're how you unlock more aircraft, and with no patch those requirements are for the most part prohibitively extensive.

Good point, never thought of that.

I can understand competitiveness and I can understand wanting to be given recognition for your achievements, I just think that XBL (and maybe PS3?) places far too much focus on it. When someone screams at you over the mic that you've "stolen their kill" just because you took a quick shot at a plane that passed through your crosshairs, I think it's gone a bit far. Especially when it takes place during a TEAM battle. I think this game is at its best when people work as a team, and individual recognition isn't a part of it. Everyone doing what they can for the team makes for a much more enjoyable game IMO.

Same goes for most games, especially BF 1943.

Might be the 'efficiency' (accuracy so to speak which shows on ranked leaderboard). Can't think of anything else but have seen people with more crashes and same kills win. Either that or its random (or screwed up)!

Yeah it's weird also how its only the PS3 leaderboards that are messed up. The xbox leaderboards (apart from how it sometimes forgets how to count, and that Team dogfights sometimes don't count for some reason) are pretty much ok.

I was wondering.. I'm rubbish at sim because I keep going high, but, whilst I've been getting shot to bits I've noticed that given enough altitude you can keep a badly damaged plane in the air for quite a bit (I'm getting good at this, unfortunately). I'm starting to think that it's more to do with the fact that most kills are low to the ground and you've no time to try and get it back so it's still a "flyable" plane and the game is treating it like one?? Just a thought.

It's so bad I've started to drop my landing gear when my engines been wiped out.. just so it's more realistic for the guy behind..
