Try to switch to realistic. When I first got the game, I did the whole thing in arcade, then went though again in realistic. I fly only realistic and sim now.
But, when I was going though in arcade, I had this issue with that battle, just as most people did. I never did beat that one in arcade. I switched to realistic and beat it the 2nd time on it. In realistic, the flight and damage is more realistic, but it only had about half the enemy to fight, so I wasn't so overwhelmed with the enemy, and beat it fairly easily in realistic. Give that a try..
