There are no issues with the beta patches and VAC.
As for the engine management, I would honestly say just start working on it now, if you go with less than full real it will be just a matter of time before you switchover, so take the jump now. Besides if you fly an 109 E4 you only need to use the throttle and boost after an initial adjustment to the oil Rad, water Rad and auto prop pitch. JD AKA_MattE
