I think what the OP was trying to say is that reporting bugs is good, talking about things that can improve is good, getting angry and posting stuff about problems that they already know about is pretty bad.
I am pretty new here but it is painfully obvious that some don't want anything more than something to complain about, they just want to vent and pretend that they are "reporting bugs" or some other nonsense. The constructive critique is good, the outright whiny and angry responses to bugs we all already know about is getting us nowhere. The response on this topic is enough proof that some don't want civil discourse, they just want anger. |

Luthier has stated previously that the sequel will have a new graphics engine, the old one being used in C.o.D. was being abandoned with the final release as it wasn't suitable going forward, there were just too many problems which weren't fixable.
I guess it like a surgical team saying the patient that they have had on llfe support for the last 18 months isn't going to survive, the heart is only running on 2 cylinders, they have had the patient on dialysis because of kidney failure and now they have discovered that the patient has liver cancer. Sorry but we have a new patient going into surgery and we may need the life support unit for that because this is a new proceedure which is untried, so we have no choice. The plug has been pulled.

I think Luthier said its going to be a new GUI not a new engine.

I'm bored, so I'm going to join in.
Some people place way to much importance on video games and their own, personally-perceived importance within these virtual gaming forums. There are many papers on this, but what you are seeing is the result of disassociation: some guys have so little impact on the world around them that shouting about video games - and getting a response from other depressives - is the only validity they get in day-to-day life. Can you imagine how shit life must be if ranting about a video game is important to you? Yeah - pretty shit. Normal people get upset about their families, or their careers. Some get upset about politics. Our guys, though - they spend hours getting upset about minor things in a video game. And now, now they're hearing that no-one cares, or will listen any more. No more fixes. Cue /more/ bug threads and /more/ sarcastic comments designed to somehow legitimise their ongoing obsession. Guys/girls: give it up. Being a loudmouth on a virtual forum - one that'll not be here in ten years time - will not improve your life. It'll ruin it. You're destroying it already. There's so much you could do! Why not learn to fly a real ******* plane? Shave your ass? Visit somewhere you've never been before? Learn something about common human decency? I'm going to hang around for a bit and **** with the usual low-life that live here, because it might amuse me. |

Oh c'mon, say what you mean! Ellipses are for gypsies, as my old tutor would say. Either make a point or don't. All this talking up your sleeve crap - be a man, for god's sake!

OMG ... I didn't realize my life was such utter crap, until I read Novotny's post. I used to enjoy reading comments from people who also had an interest in WW 2 air combat simulation but I now realize how empty and facile the whole business has become. So taking Novotny's advice I went out and shaved everything, including my ass, but so far nothing has changed. My life is still utter crap. What should I do next?

Furbs,
The GUI as I understand is the graphics that drives the program, so if there is a new GUI then surely that means basically a new graphics engine. The GUI system was introduced back in 1995 which was a big advance for programmers. A change in the GUI (Graphics Engine) is why the sequel won't be backwards compatible with C.o.D. The planes maps etc, from C.o.D. will be transfered into the sequel and because of the change in the GUI programming anything from the sequel won't go in reverse.

I know they're done with updates for CloD. What I do hope though is this. When they get close to release date, use CloD as beta test material,(minus BoM specific content). There are allready so many CloD users out there. This way they don't have to invent the wheel twice. We get free updates, they get free feedback and CloD stays on everyone's radar screen. Becoming more relevant with each update. Make it non steam downloadable content so we have a choice. If CloD's remaining problems get adressed over time, before BoM release, there will be coninued interest and increased sales of CloD. This will result in a bigger group of potential BoM buyers when it's ready.
