Default Upgrade Advice Please

Hi folks,

Just getting into CoD and wondered if anyone can advise me if it worth upgrading my pc at all?

I have the following;
Intel Core2 Quad Q8300 2.50GHz with 4G Ram, Win 7 and NVidea GeForce GTX 260 with 896mb GDDR3 Memory

My average fps on the blackrain (i think thats what its called) video track is 26, with high of 64 and low of 9. This is with all settings at medium, (except forest is Low), at 1600x900

I notice a better vid card is huge money. Is it worth getting another 260 to add to my existing card in SLi? Is my CPU good enough?

Hope this isn't too vague. I'm not particularly technical.

Thanks in advance.

Hi mate, if you look at my spec's im getting 57 FPS (avg) with everything maxed out at 1920x1200, that said there are still some points where my FPS will drop to 6 whilst playing the game. More optimisation is clearly needed, but if you have the right kit then CLOD is almost playable other than the bugs. Regarding SLI I have seen some threads where members have claimed to have got it working with a bit of tinkering but currently there is no nvidia profile to run CLOD in SLI though Luthier claims this will be resolved soon. I hope that helps a little.

MSPV12, your cpu and RAM are fine, I would suggest a new graphics card – a GeForce 560 or Radeon 6870 would provide more than adequate performance, depending on price and availability. A friend has a similar system to yours with a HD6950 1GB (was the same price as a 6870), and runs high settings fluidly.

Thanks guys, that's great news. Haven't had the system for very long, maybe 6 months?

The Wifey wouldn't take it too well if I said, "Hey honey, I need a new PC again"!

Off to get a new GFX Card...................

CPU frequency seems to help out a lot in this game.
at 2.5.. I think you can do better going for a faster chip.

4mb of ram is a little low.. but unless you're on a 64 bit system.. more isnt going to do any good.

Id say work on the cpu.. and video.

Hi guys,

I have just installed a GTX560Ti.

My average fps is now 28 with all settings on High, but no shadows or grass. So definately an improvement there.

Next thing will be to upgrade from 4Gb Ram to 8Gb. My Ram is DDR2-SDRAM PC2-6400

I only have two slots on the Mobo. Any pointers on good deals on 2x 4Gb sticks?

Thanks

with the last patch i get 30[avg] on black death track
on everything high very high
its playable to me [more stutters with this patch]
but the game needs ASAP optimisation to be fully playable and i doubt if they make it this year

Dunno about good deals where u are at but I suggest u try lowering Land Shadings from High to Medium. U won't notice any major difference in ground texture but will gain +5 frames on average.
Don't forget to turn off the mirror when in game and update to latest drivers if u haven't already.
Btw if u get more frames after doubling your ram then please post back cause then I'll up my ram too (don't think it will affect fps to any extent but who knows).

Wierd thing. I just went into steam and turned off the cloud. Now when I run the blackdeath track and shift-tab, the console doesn't come up to allow me to entre the fps command.

Any ideas?

Something screwed with your ini-files. Check Controls menu what key is assigned to console.
