Hi,
I have difficulties to run the game in OpenGL mode. It's don't lag or freeze, the game run very smoot on my Intel HD graphics, but I have strange problem... watch the picture there, http://communities.intel.com/thread/27375?tstart=60 I have strange cloud and when I put hardwareshader=1, it's not possible to have Perfect setting. + the ground in OpenGL has pixel flash when I'm at low altitude, but I have strange flash at high just for the forest. My questions are simple : What OpenGL version I need for this game? I have OpenGL 2.1 Second questions : Do I have to change the directory of my game? I install my game in C:\ and I created a folder "Il2 1946" with all the game inside. |

You're running Intel graphics mate. Those are bare-bones laptop video chipsets designed for low heat and low power for longer battery life. They aren't cutting edge 3D gaming gfx chipsets, and you can't expect them to act as such. Furthermore, Intel's goal for drivers is stability and efficiency, not for gaming.
In summary, you're trying to drive a Toyota Prius at the Dakar World Rally and complaining you can't keep up. Most likely you've either run into a driver bug or trying to force a feature that isn't supported. Back off the settings until the game behaves correctly. |

I *think* IL-2 was programmed in OpenGL 2.1 but I wouldn't get too hung up on the OpenGL version as IL-2 is very old.
The bigger issue is that your graphics system is designed mostly for low powered performance. 3D acceleration on the Intel GMA cards (including the "HD" versions) is oriented around acceptable throughput for running HD video streams and having a smooth experience in Windows Vista/7. Even bigger an issue is that Intel may say that they support OpenGL 2.1 but it's not likely to be an optimized implementation. They did it to check off the boxes for simple OpenGL applications but flight simulators may be right off their charts. If you can get it running in Excellent mode I'd say you're doing very well. If it works at all in Perfect I'd be surprised. The guys on the thread say you have an older driver version. I'd say try and do a driver update to at least help things along but you may not be satisfied.

LOL! Nice comparison. Open GL 1.2, if my sources are correct. Last edited by swiss; 02-15-2012 at 01:04 PM. |
