All of this bullcrap about the patch got me wondering, why the hell does anyone give a damn about scores in a video game that is otherwise extremely enjoyable?
I'm only referring to the MP scoring fix that everyone seems so desperate for. Obviously the patch features more fixes than this. But my point is, when I'm playing, and I fill another player full of enough holes to make him spin out and hit the ground, it feels really great, regardless of whether it says "Player x has crashed" or not. And when all is said and done and the match's winner is declared, who cares? Is it really that important for a game to tell you that you've won? Now I understand that we all paid money for a product and there are flaws with that product, and I'm looking forward to the patch as much as anyone, but I just don't get the mentality that says "although I love this game, I'm not going to play it until the scoring's fixed". Any thoughts? |

Personally I think there's a few people behaving like spoilt kids about this particular subject. There's quite a bit of rabble rousing on here...
There are however a lot of people on here who've been much more dignified and adult about it. I'm a PS3-er and I'm starting to feel sorry for the Xboxers on here because there has been very little info from the Devs since the PS3 update. I think that is unfair. It's a game that carries with it a certain emotional attachment because of the subject matter.. Most people on here LOVE WWII aircraft and It possible that the devs are abusing that slightly.. Has anyone seen a post by a developer in the last 3 weeks? Not even a "bear with us guys we're doing all we can" I suppose that in the end your only way to show your disappointment is to protest in some form, to some that means a polite email, to others it means boycott the online game..But if you're one of those not playing it because you have no patience and are just cutting off your nose to spite your face, then you're stupid and you should probably grow up a bit.. |

Manfred von Richthofen used to put souvenirs of all the planes he downed on the walls of his quarters, along with photos of the pilots if he could obtain them. One of his early motivations for getting kills was to win the Pour le Merite.
When he was put in control of Jasta 11 and then promoted again, he ordered all the planes to be painted in bright colors and outrageous designs, to establish a feared reputation among Allied pilots, of course they ended up calling it the Flying Circus and Richthofen the Red Baron After Richthofen was shot down and recovering from a serious head wound, he wrote a book for the German propaganda machine. He used to trade his autograph for better food and supplies. He enjoyed and cultivated his fame. Likewise with most BOP players. Most players don't mind seeing their name at the top of a leaderboard. If nobody really cared, they wouldn't make leaderboards. The boards are broken, but victory usually increases your level. Usually. Yesterday I lost 2 levels after beating someone ranked higher than me, and then beating someone ranked lower by a big margin. |

I agree, the kill score shouldn't be the only goal to make the game enjoyable. The scoring can look a bit odd at times.....10 kills and 17 deaths and another player 2 kills and not shot down once. I would be extremely happy with the latter TBH.

Good subject. I agree with you completely Kozzm0. I have no idea how the dang leaderboard keeps scores. I know one thing though, those guys in the upper ranks are damn good! I got into several scrapes the past couple days with some of them and just couldn't believe how fast those guys killed me. I could barely even see them. let alone get any lead in them. I can tell you this. I got some good shots several times and within 20-30 seconds they crashed and I got no kill. That was frustrating, to say the least, but certainly not enough to condemn the game or protest it. When you fly your ass off against top notch competition and 1 or 2 kills can make a difference, yeah, it can be irksome. And yes, I do like to see my handle rising on the boards!!!! Competitive is the word. I coached baseball and football for 11 years and losing doesn't feel good. I want to make clear, though, most on this forum are adult about it and in the end, fun is the name of the game! Assholes are everywhere though. I ignore them and keep playing anyway.

Example: I'm already at a disadvantage that my planes, the Fw190 and P-51D are too slow and handle quite poorly and the circle flyers can turn forever without blacking out. I spot two spitfires in a slow circle and swoop down and boom on one of the spitfires. the closing distance could be 400+mph. I get one chance to time my firing correct. I fire and hit the spits wing and I watch it go into a spin as it disapears far behind me. A few seconds later I get a message telling me that the spitfire has crashed!. Now about 70% of the time I miss the target with my guns, so when I do get it right I want it to mean something. By the end of the game I've got about 5 kills with only one counting and 2 deaths. My team has lost. At the end of the game the guy with the most points on the winning side in the spit that I shot down comments to the guy on my team that killed the most, "Dude you didn't get much help from your team mates did you" Both these guys have over 10 crashes each. Is that fair?? Now I will still play the game because I love it, But I still get angry with it and need to vent in posts now and then, lol sorry If they sound a bit childish.

IMO most men, and especially gaming men, are competitive. There are scores for nearly every kind of game you can think of. And of all the thing begging for a score, it's thing being simulated in which they actually kept scores for real...
Don't get me wrong - I haven't checked the leaderboards for a long time, but I don't like to see myself on the bottom of the end of game scoreboard. I think the better you get at something, the more it matters. But just a reality check: the patch does not entirely fix this issue. If you clip a spitfire's wings at 10m and he instantly spirals into the ground, it can still more often than not register as a crash not a kill... P.S: +several to Winny's post. |

I like to get credit if im the pilot that brought down another pilot. I do agree that even if you shot a plane into the ground it still feles good too even if no credit is given. Be patient the game update will be here when the time is right.

What is the deal with the scoring system anyway?
I've seen end of TDM results where two players got an identical amount of kills/crashes and yet one of them has more points. ![]() |

I'd imagine people care about scores because they're how you unlock more aircraft, and with no patch those requirements are for the most part prohibitively extensive.
