One thing in this game ive always wondered is why do German and Japanese planes need to Shift+f1 to center thier sights and why wasnt the game designed originally to center the gunsight based on the plane your flying. The ShiftF1 thing bugs me b/c when you fly an axis plane you lose half your FoV. Allied planes can zoom all the way back and they have so much more FoV. In the 190 you have like no FoV when you get done with its fat cockpit bars and the zoomed FoV, same for the 262.

The game defaults to how you would be when normally flying not shooting. |

Well then, that pretty much awnsers it then -D I just kinda wish Shift F1 didnt zoom the FoV.

Your field of view doesn't change. The eye point does and you could argue that it does make visibility from those cockpits worse... But the actual field of view doesn't change by hitting Shift F1. Exception: Aircraft equipped with telescopic sights.
Practically speaking, since German and Japanese types had offset gun sights, you do need at least two views shifting the eye point between something neutral for flying and looking through the sight for shooting. In most other planes it just changes the eye point so you can see a different set of gauges/visibility out the back.

Well, just tried shift F1 in an Fw190 and, yes, field of view does change a bit.

This is annoying without 6dof but with the il2 6dof mod i quite liked moving my head to view the sights, so BOB which is designed with 6dof in mind should be fun and realistic.

I don't use toggle gunsight command unless I get into bombardier position... thanks to sHr
![]() sure my gunnery kind of needs improvement but is very immersive this way. |

The field of view does not change. The point of view moves forward and to the side a bit, where (in some planes) more of the field of view is obscured by the cockpit framing and panel which might give an impression that FoV changes. But it doesn't, it stays exactly the same. It's easy to confirm this by observing distant objects and switching between normal and Shift-F1 view.
