tvrdi, that 8800GT 512 would do the trick with a 24" at 1920x1200 with ease. Get the 24", don't get a cheaper TN panel. The quality difference between TN and SPVA's is shocking as is the difference between a cheap 24" and a good quality 24".
actually there is a new Lenovo L220X which is 22" with 1920x1200 resolution with price between average 22" TN and 24" s-pva (cca 640$ here)....i wonder if smaller dot picth would be a problem in detecting dots...

Lenovo:
22 wide 1920x1280 = 11295 pixel / sq. inch (0.247 mm square)

15.4 wide 1280x800 = 9608 pixel / sq. inch
15.4 wide 1440x900 = 12161 pixel / sq. inch
15.4 wide 1680x1050 = 16552 pixel / sq. inch

17 4:3 1280x1024 = 9437 pixel / sq. inch
19 4:3 1280x1024 = 7555 pixel / sq. inch
20 wide 1680x1050 = 9811 pixel / sq. inch (0.258 mm)
22 wide 1680x1050 = 8107 pixel / sq. inch (0.282 mm)
24 wide 1920x1280 = 9494 pixel / sq. inch (0.282 mm)
