Well since that is a V.A.C. enabled stadium I would assume it's a mod... :D

Also, much respect to the runner in question.

do you imagine if he was allowed to run in the olimpics how many top athletes would have "accidents"?

the borg is coming

brando 08-30-2011 11:19 AM

Speaking as an amputee, I can assure you that no sane person would elect to have their legs removed below the knee in order to become a 'better runner'.

That's one way to end a thread! Well said Brando, and +1 to you.

i didnt mean to sound rude but dont you agree if people with artificial legs was allowed to run all would use that eventually?

your right no sane people would do that

but what about the insane, youtube technocalipse(dont watch it, sick sick, a bunch of sickos people into becoming supeerhuman by enhancements)

they call it transhumanism

Madfish 08-30-2011 08:17 PM

Today might still be a bit early but, rude or not, I also believe that we'll see a lot of implants and augmentation in the near future. We already do it with our brains and tools we use instead of just thinking. Like calculators etc. So although some great math geniuses might be proud of their "naturally given" ability to calculate - most of us give a damn about it because it's easier, better, to rely on tools.

Now, today we're just at the beginning of all that. We're barely beginning to transplant limbs, replace them with real ones or mechanical ones. We're also beginning to transplant eyes though and in a couple of years many will eventually want the full 360° package with nightvision and thermospectral capabilities. Who knows?

Fact is, this runner certainly makes it clear that artificial limbs can be at least absolutely equal to real ones under certain conditions. If research continues then eventually even better. What that means is for up to each own to decide I guess.

Also, I do know an amputee and also a disabled person and what they truly want is to be treated equally. There's nothing rude about saying an opinion like that. Eventually people will get so used to it, like to piercings, that it's normal. Body modification IS a topic of the future. For sure.
