Is AA working?

I"m sure this has been asked before, but is AA working. I have 4X AA enabled in the GUI and my ccc is set to use application settings. my res is 1920x1200 and i'm seeing an aliased image. Is anybody else seeing this? Thanks in advance for any replies.

skouras 04-22-2011 01:33 PM

same problem
it doesnt work

Dores 04-22-2011 03:06 PM

For me it works, but only a tiny bit. Even 8x doesn't do much, but it's way better than nothing.

skouras 04-22-2011 06:16 PM

yeap 8x here and no big deal about the awful edges
i wonder if they going to fix it:rolleyes:

JumpingHubert 04-23-2011 11:52 AM

there was a theory full screen support solves the poor AA. Now we have fullscreen support with latest beta. Tried it with all combinations of nvidia driver settings (latest driver). No change. Still 2xaa max.

skouras 04-28-2011 10:38 PM

any word from the devs yet:(

JumpingHubert 04-29-2011 12:52 AM

no...............the fewest note it

skouras 04-29-2011 01:51 PM

i can't believe it:evil:
no aa above 2x:confused:

There was a recent article on THG about the application of AA in modern games, and it’s a bit more complicated than used to be the case. Apparently, in some cases AA cannot be applied to certain shader effects (the article was typically long-winded and involved), and they examined various AA modes in a number of games using both Ati and nVidia cards – some modes had no effect in some games, others were more successful.

It may be the case that current drivers are not employing the process effectively enough to be noticeable. I haven’t tried ‘super sampling’ yet, which results in a huge fps drop in other games I’ve tried, along with a very obvious ‘smoothing’ of everything. It definitely doesn’t work as well as it does in Rof, for example, but maybe future drivers will have better results

i am not fanatic AA-Junkie who use 32AA or other useless "improvements" in image quality. But in a flightsim low AA ruins all the nice graphics of COD and destroy immersion for me. Lets hope someone will find a solution in the next months.....

Following up on another thread I am doing some tests with the following utility:

Now I'm not sure if I managed to get it working but it would be nice if more people could test it.

What I did is add both Steam.Exe and Launcher.Exe to the games.txt file of the application, run it, then changed the resolution in the conf.ini of CoD (the one in the documents folder-> 1C softclub etc.) to double the max resolution my monitor supports (since my monitor supports 1360x768 I turned it to 2720 x 1536, testing now with 4x resolution).

Now when I started the game I noticed a problem, it did catch the high res at the startup logo but the menu and subsequent items would revert to default. My solution has been to just keep the conf.ini file open in notepad so it can't be overwritten by the game but to be honest I'm not sure if that is how it works. Now running the Black Death track I did notice it looked higher res but my eyes could be deceiving me, fps certainly did drop though.

P.S. Be careful when using this utility, for me it messed up the placement of my on screen gauges and didn't revert them back after, also the Tiger Moth suddenly turned grey amongst some other small graphic bugs. So use at your own risk!

I made one test screenie but have no real other good screens of before to compare it to :(

So yeah, if you're feeling like experimenting you could try it out, also note the nice three blue lines along the horizon. Yay for having a Radeon hd6970 :P

And another:

anyone get it work:confused:

RocketDog 05-02-2011 08:21 PM

On my 6970 it works if I set AA to "use applicaton settings" and "edge detect" in the CCC,

skouras 05-02-2011 10:02 PM

what about Nvidia users:confused:

AA clearly works for me. Geforce GTX 285 w/latest WHQL drivers...

Nice screen.

I have my AA set to Override and Standard, gives me better results then edge-detect personally, then I use that proggie as well which has been linked above and it does seem to help for me but it might be wishful thinking :P

JumpingHubert 05-03-2011 02:52 PM

@BaronWastelan
i think its not the question if it works but how it works: not above 2xaa. thats all.

@Woef
thanks for the tip. i will give it a try.

It does not. I can clearly see aliased line on your screenshot

FZG_Immel 05-03-2011 07:41 PM

Dev, this must me solved. It's a visual realism killer...

AA needs to work properly, and also, we need to get rid of the texture shimmering..both for trees and shadows. It ruins the visual of this game.

LoBiSoMeM 05-03-2011 07:49 PM

MAYBE with real fullscreen suport all this will be solved. Let's wait the next patch.

justme262 05-04-2011 02:27 PM

If I turn AA up x8 it still says x4 in the config.ini file.
Even so i run both il2 1946 and IL2COD at 1600x900 aax4 and in 46 if I hit flyby the plane can fly all the way into the distance and it never looks blocky even when it is the smallest level of detail. So it seems the AA in COD does work but not very well... maybe it's the shaders problem mentioned by earlier post.

JumpingHubert 05-04-2011 06:15 PM

with new beta fullscreenmode switched to "on" AA still isn´t working above 2x....:(

Clearly AA isnt working here, do you even know what it is? If it is working at all its not more than 2x which might as well be nothing. 4x is the only way to go as far as performance and quality go. I have tried all settings and cant get it to work past 2x. A complete joke...

Completely agree, just look at the edge under the tip of the Right Wing.....looks like a Hack-Saw! So does the back-edge of the Rudder!

That is not AA, and I'm not even sure if AF works.....?

Currently my Copy of CloD is parked ina Hanger waiting for September 15th....maybe they can fix it by Battle of Britain day?

Who knows?

Cheers, MP
