CoD won't fully start up

1 Attachment(s)
Hi,

I have the game on steam but unfortunately I can't get it to load properly. Having looked at the FAQ I thought my graphics driver was the culprit, but I've updated them to the appropriate version and no luck.

The game loads to what you see in the attached picture and no further. It doesn't show any splash screens or the like, it goes straight from a balck screen (with the crosshairs image) to that. I can move the cursor around, bring the boxes up with alt+click (and close them) but can't make anything else happen.

PC specs:
Core2Duo E8400 3.00GHz
4GB RAM
NVIDIA GTX 285 (Driver: 270.51)
Vista 64bit

I've tried restarting multiple times, verifying the game's cache, running as administrator. Would appreciate any help, thanks :)

EDIT: Oh and one other thing, Steam said I'd need to enter the CD key it gave me, but I was given no option (perhaps because it isn't starting up properly). It did say the "Activated!" thing though.

poudjik 03-31-2011 10:41 AM

I have the same problem with steam version
My PC uses:

Vista 64bits
Ati 4890 Vapor X

edit quadcore q9550 2.8ghz

Deadstick 03-31-2011 10:45 AM

I'm having similar problems, but I am using a Toshiba Notebook with a monitor attached.

I updated the Nvidia and Toshiba drivers, I get through the black screen with cross-hairs to the menu...but, no Pilot or Aircraft are visible, and when I load a mission it's back to the desktop but with engine sounds...Ah well, hopefully a patch will sort it.

Specs:

Win 7 32bit
2.66Ghz
4GB Ram
Nvidia GT330M 1GB (Driver 267.76 Notebook)

Kizko 03-31-2011 11:15 AM

Having the same problem here.

Steam version. Keeps on popping up with the "Heres your key" window, then comes up with that image, same as OP's.

Specs:
Win XP
ATI 5700 series HD
4GB RAM
Q9550 Quad Core

Sobric 03-31-2011 11:38 AM

I also get the exact same issue as the OP, even after a re-install and the latest patch. Again, the steam version.

Phenom II X4 945 2.99 Ghz
ATi Radeon HD 4750
4 GB RAM
Windows 7 x64

Kizko 03-31-2011 09:18 PM

I think the problem must be that our games were bought off steam........
seems everyone so far has the steam version with this problem

Kamikaze_kid1990 03-31-2011 10:16 PM

Yeah, Also have the same problem and downlaoded off steam
http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthr...187#post247187
Will have to get on to the steam forums and try gt them to look into it

vonlinchen 03-31-2011 10:53 PM

steam version again.

I have however found somthing very strange.

I have this issue but if I minimise and re-enter the game then I can move my mouse cursor.

I can also adjust the camera view using Delete/End/Home keys

And I can change the game speed using [ ] keys.

Which is weird cause we havn't even made it to the menu yet :S

Its like its loading us straight into a game with no plane and no mission for some reason :S

EDIT: My friend had the exact same hardware setup as me and has purchased the game through steam but his runs fine. Only difference is hes on 64bit Windows 7 & im on 32bit Windows 7

Lhowon 04-01-2011 06:48 AM

I've tried the various troubleshooting suggestions from the Launcher.exe problem thread, and still no luck. It would be awesome if someone could shed some light on this - not being able to load at all is frustrating!

Thanks

602Sqn.McLean 04-01-2011 08:21 AM

Same problem

I'm sooooo frustrated. Mine won't launch. It brings up the crosshairs and then says 'Launcher has stopped working'.
I've tried everything.
I know everyone gets cranky at me for going off but surely this can't be right. A company can't sell you something that is so poorly done with no 'direct' help to sort it out. What the hell do we do? :confused::confused:

I submitted the bug to ubi support reference#: 110401-000222

ckolonko 04-01-2011 02:54 PM

Cheers AnarchyZG.

AnarchyZG 04-01-2011 10:31 PM

No response from ubi support. I have searched for the solution on simHQ, ubi zoo...nothing. Even went through russian forums...no solution.

Although I did notice that the window isn't in fact frozen, it's just not displaying UI as it should.

Deadstick 04-02-2011 04:35 AM

I forgot to post this here:
Quote:

IF you bought the game off Steam as I did, you will need to:

1) Browse to your game folder and find the folder 'redist'.

I found mine here :C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\redist

2) Try running the Direct X installer*. ( This was the problem for me, but I had tried running other installers in there too).
It worked for me. Note that I tried ALL installers in this folder, restarted, and it worked.

*look for the DXSETUP file.

Unfortunately this doesn't work for me - you said you could get to the menu though, so our problems are probably different :(

Kizko 04-02-2011 05:18 AM

Didn't work for me either.

I had the same problem only i have a hard copy CE. I got nothing, hard drive would start to work then nothing.
I was told that on board sound can effect some games (C97 realtek)
I went and got a USB head set and I got into the game (menus)
The game loaded but i got black screen, but sound is there, I then upgraded GFX card driver to the suggested 270.51 now when game loads it goes back to windows screen with no mouse.

I have similar specs to you guys core2 3ghz Nvidia 860gtx

Think i will get sound card next and disable onboard.

Interesting, thanks. I do have onboard sound but don't have a soundcard to test with. I'll be glad to know what you find out!

Hmmm, there are a few extras(like Direct X, .Net 4 client etc), that SHOULD auto-run on installing the game, but seem to not work properly in the Steam version.

I wonder if they are causing issues on the DVD version too?

Can you browse to the folders/files on your DVD? There maybe a way to try and run the installers from there.

I have also added launcher.exe(CoD) into my Nvidia Control panel under: Manage Settings/Program Settings, where I changed CUDA-GPUs to ALL>Use These GPUs> GT330M(my video card). I also turned THreaded Optimisation to -ON, but left everything else. Not sure if that did much, but I can fly over water OK. :)

That's all I got sorry.

So your gt330m is working? is that a laptop, what drivers are you using?
Ive got the samsung r780 gt 330m got game through steam, but damed if i can get it to work
Starting to think, this is a steam problem

Kizko 04-02-2011 11:39 AM

I think that the steam version might not have downloaded some files, like shaders. Can someone with a working copy of CoD locate their shaders folder so we can compare it?

poudjik 04-03-2011 10:28 AM

We should really get help from 1C, how can we get their attention on this?

While people are complaining about lag issues, we can't even get the friggin game to start and it's been 4 days since purchase...

AnarchyZG 04-03-2011 01:57 PM

I enabled the logging feature (turn off the Steam Cloud and enable log in conf.ini). An unhandled exception is shown in the logfile, unfortunatelly it does not help since it does not give a clue where the problem might be (code is obfuscated).

I tried uninstalling sound drivers and disabling the sound card in bios, and also doing those video card settings.
Neither worked for me. :\

Corrvan 04-04-2011 11:49 AM

Bump! Anyone got a fix or ideas for this yet?

Sobric 04-04-2011 07:36 PM

Although I've not solved it at all - I did notice when fiddling with config's that I didn't seem to have all the info that other who can start the game do... specifically config info on screen resolution and D3D render:

I did not have the bolded lines in either config file (the Steam or 1c folder). It's not solved the issue, but perhaps indicates what's going wrong?

[window]
DepthBits =24
StencilBits=8
DrawIfNotFocused=0
SaveAspect=0
Render=D3D10_0
width=1440
height=900
ColourBits=32
FullScreen=1
ChangeScreenRes=1

AnarchyZG 04-04-2011 08:14 PM

Guys, please report the problem to ubi support. Maybe someone will notice there is a problem...

Hmm, unfortunatley, Mine already has them. Reported to Ubi support. =)

AnarchyZG 04-05-2011 07:48 PM

I got the response from ubi support...standard troubleshooting steps...disable all startup apps, update drivers, clear temp files. No luck.

Kamikaze_kid1990 04-05-2011 08:52 PM

Bah!! Typical. Any idea when the next update might be out? Might be our only chance at this rate

csThor 04-06-2011 12:16 PM

I got the STEAM download version and it runs smoothly without any CTDs (I had one but that was user error). Could it be that the game doesn't like to be installed in the C:\Program Files folder structure? I have my steam somewhere else ... and no issues.

Lhowon 04-07-2011 10:52 AM

Fixed!

FIXED!

Yay! The Beta Patch has fixed this problem for me. Thanks devs!

Corrvan 04-07-2011 12:32 PM

Beta patch did not fix this for me.
In fact, instead of getting the screen with sky/black, where I can change time compression, now the little crosshair with the plane appears, instantly disappears, and nothing happens.
Much worse.

ckolonko 04-07-2011 05:15 PM

Still the same for me.

Corrvan 04-08-2011 02:52 PM

still no developer word? how many people still have this?
This is rediculous, more than a week now and I can't even open a game I have bought :\
A simple "we know it exists, haven't fixed it yet!" will suffice!

Kamikaze_kid1990 04-08-2011 09:11 PM

update fixed it for me. YUS!

Lhowon 04-08-2011 10:16 PM

Weird if it doesn't work for some... I'd wait for Steam to update your game (to make sure the patch is properly installed) and see if it works.
