Absolutely fantastic video, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Just goes to show what a great plane the spit was and how beautiful it was flying around the sky. It actually reminded me of two things.

One was the fact that the RAF could use almost anywhere as a landing strip. You can see that in the vid the runway is very uneven and has a number of small crests and dips. Any well maintaned estate in England could have served as a runway for the RAF, and almost any field could be leveled enough to serve as one to.

The second was it jogged my memory about a TV show that used to be on the TV here a number of years ago. It was about a squadron of spitfire pilots from the outbreak of war onward. I didnt actually get to see much of it, as when I remember it from was WAY back in the 80's iirc and I was to young then to take an interest in it.

If anyone remembers it please do let me know. It was an ITV show, from around 1988 I think. One memorable scene I did see was at the outbreak of war the squadrons airfield was buzzed my a lone luftwaffe pilot in a 109. He passed the field once at low level. The people on the ground didnt know what he was doing. He came back for a second pass and subsequently dropped a tin chamber pot on the runway.

One of the cast asked, "What was that about?". To which the reply was; "It means next time, it wont be a chamber pot." He turns to the now forming crowd of pilots and states; "Thats it lads, the wars on now."

The gladiator tune afterwards, makes the movie calmer :). Really enjoyed it from that part, greaaat footage :)

Well, it does explain the name of the movie: Piece of Cake Tribute :-P. It says below the video it's footage taken from that show.

Yeah, Prodigy at the beginning was a little hard to take. Doesn't really fit, but the clips were good non the less.

I found another good Spit show on Google Video. It's called Spitfire Ace. They take four young pilots (two RAF Lt.s and two civilian) and give them a chance to learn combat training just like the kids back in 1940. Alot of those boys entered combat with only 9 hours in the Spitfire!:o Lots of good historic information too, including interviews with the actual veterans.
