hi, new to the forum (i appologize if there is allready a thread for this purpose)

just curious regarding what planes everyone wants added as DLC. here are mine:

Bell P-39 Airacobra OR P-63 Kingcobra (pretty much the same). ok fighter but the soviets used them well for ground support.

Curtis P-40 Warhawk

Dornier 335 Pfiel (german for arrow): a pretty unique plane since it has an engine and propeller at the front AND back, so it's as fast as a 2-engine plane, but handles like a single-engine fighter.

Macchi 205 Veltro: better version of the Macchi 202

Mikoyan Mig-3

Gloster G.41 meteor: a british jet that was deployed 2 weeks BEFORE the me-262

feel free to add your own suggestions

P-39 in IL2 was a pleasure to fly. Its got that great cockpit with the side opening door, just so uniquely cool.
Its flight model was very...'twitchy' at first, but with experience flying it, it was a very manueverable little machine at low to mid alts. The quick roll rate surprised me! Perhaps it was a result of the mid-engined design.
What a thrilling ride-takes some getting used to though-she will spin-out easily until you get her unique feel. Unlike any front engined plane.
The mix of 3 different calibres makes gunnery a bit odd, again takes practice-not a beginners plane by any means, but very rewarding to suceed with her.
Id love a P-38 too, .she loves to fight in the vert.
But Ive never flown the IL2 version of her flight model.
Any fly herin IL2 ? Comments?

+1 for the Mosquito and Lightning

Disagree about the aircobra though. It's is good for it's novelty factor and should be included as a P-39N in the Italian Airforce. The Do-335 Pfeil would be fun to fly too for its weirdness.

My other choses would be:

Hawker Tempest
De Haviland Hornet
Avro Lancaster
Gloster Meteor
P-80A Shooting Star

I thought about putting the Defiant in my list, but in the game I think it would almost useless online. It wasn't heavily armoured like a stuka so you'd be shot down instantly if you tried using the guns on a pursuing fighter but as it had no other weapons you can do nothing else. All it was good for was shooting at bombers from infront, hidden from the nose gunners by the night. And the weight and drag of the turret made it handle like a pig.

It could be nice to have some fights with some PZ11 against a couple BF 109, but you will never find it in the Net.

P-40 should be one of the tops as it was a top allied success story. Read General Chenault's Flying Tigers.

I read a book with the almost an identical plot from the 60's. I cant remember the name but it was about a spitfire pilot who went missing in action over the channel in '41.

Subsequently, when his former squadron was under heavy attack and heavily outnumbered, an extra plane would appear out of the sun attacking the germans and shooting them down with ease. None of the squadron could identify the planes pilot as it had no markings (other than roundrils). No german pilots could get close enough to shoot it, and it always managed to evade any attacks on it. As soon as the battle was in the RAF's favour the plane would dissapear in to the coulds and not be seen again.

The story then takes off (pardon the pun) with the "quest" of one pilot to discover if the plane was his old squadron buddy, and what really happened to him on his fateful flight.

Technically yes. However the story was based on reports from pilots during the Battle of Britain of "unknown" RAF aircraft taking on the Germans, and somehow managing to turn the fight in the RAF's favour. At the time many pilots believed that it was either a special wing that the RAF had, or it was something "else". Many speculated it was old wingmen come back from the grave, others that it was "ghost" aircraft with no pilot seeking vengance.

Whatever the case the story was a good one, I just wish I could remember the damn name of it.

thanks for the link to the book. i might actually read it.

BUT... lets get back on the topic of DLC. i was thinking that they could add a few single mission that take place during the battle for France early in the war, complete with french aircraft such as:

BLOCH MB-152C-1
Dewoitine D 520 (also used by Italy)
Morane-Saulnier M.S. 406

Also, I'd like to see the Russian Pe-2 and Tu-2. you can see the Pe-2 in the Berlin intro video.

Great planes guys - the thing I'd _really_ like in DLC though is a more varied set of training modes to give these planes a run in (or bots for online, which'd be the same thing in effect) - Or some single missions where you can choose a variety of planes to try them with, and can choose to fly on both sides (obviously sticking to historically accurate loadouts for the sides, no Lancs flying bomber runs for the Italians - but giving people a choice of Hurri II, Spit II, Spit IX, Spit XVI or Tempest say?)

Give us a compliment of carrier planes to go with it:

...you get the idea. I want to dive bomb and torpedo ships. When the targets can shoot back like on the sea target maps it's more fun than defenseless bunkers too.

Agreed on P-38, a corrected P-51D, Mosquito. Lancaster might be too dominant but it sure would be fun. A B-24 also would be nice for another big bomber option.

Amazingly, I managed to snap off a wheel earlier on and not die, so it's possible that you could slide it and still fire the turret guns.

I did this last night on a training mission. I snapped off both landing gear while taking off. I raised the gear while one foot off the ground and a small ridge clipped the gear as they were raising and snapped them off. I still managed to belly land it later though.

And flying boats would be super cool imo.

Now that i think about it, IL-2 will most likely have lots of DLC content. And, as long as it isn't like Ace Combat 6 were most of the planes have some japanese anime person on it, which i hate, im more then ok...personally no unrealistic stuff is also OK, but then again, it would be fun. My friend baught the ANIME F-22 not knowing what it was, as soon as we started flying, he just went "WTF, Why is their this ANIME person on my wing, what a waste of money...****!!!!"

Yeah that is true Soviet Ace, great climb rate though and in the right hands (not necessarily my hands) it has some potential.

I really love it for the lines and being a rather unique plane compared to most other fighters in the war more than anything else.

Not to nit-pick, but the standard armament was actually better than posted above.
4x.50 cal and a 20mm cannon in most models. The added .50 cals and higher rate of fire and better trajectory of the 20mm over the 37mm would be significant.
The P-39 had the gun arrangement you mentioned, and the convergence and trajectory mismatches, and low ROF of the 37 mm really proved to be a design fault in action, at least in the air to air role. The 37mm could be a terror against light armored vehicles however. The Russians made great use!

Tor sir you are correct, the XP-38 model or the first model in the early 40's was 2x.50 and 2x.30 + cannon but from 42-43 I think most were armed with 4x.50's + the cannon.

I'm not quite up to speed on all the specs but just get it in the game so I can enjoy it's beauty like I did on IL-2 for the PC

+1 on that

but they should add it as the "he-113" . the head of German propaganda used he-100s to create a fictional night-fighter squadron of "he-113"s. he mannaged to fool the allies into thinking it was a real plane.

He-100 would be a sweet plane to try out. Sadly no one that I know of, has tried to create a replica, since they were all destroyed. :(

The Ju-88 would be a nice addition. I would love a cockpit for the Bf-110. I've always had a soft spot for the B-25 too...
