Anton,
Can you give us an idea of how things are going to provide the community with confidence that the title has longevity and we can lookforward to many more DLCs, new titles etc?

I also am very curious about how this game is doing. If I was to take into consideration how many people play sim mode online then I would think this game has only sold a couple of hundred copies. Hehe
This game is by leaps and bounds my favorite title to ever come to consoles. So it being able to thrive means a great deal to me. Because I would love to see more developers and publishers consider realistic flight sims as a valuable genre on consoles.

The only reason I'm on top of the leaderboards is because I've played a lot of matches.
Not to toot my own horn, but I'm a lot of fun to fly with. I'll never crash purposely, I'll work with you if you're having trouble, and I like friendly games. The only reason I'm way on top of the leaderboards is because I love playing this game a lot.
In fact, I think I'm going to start a thread for simulation advise.

I don't think they get sales figures until next month. Also, I don't know if they differentiate the "next-gen" version of BoP with the Wii and hand-held versions.
Seeing as Anton is already musing on a sequel I guess it must look good so far.
well the game definitley needs to be advertised more and lets be honest IL2 sturmovik isnt a catchy name.
In Russia maybe everyone knows what a Sturmovik is but in the UK or USA or Europe nobody does.
If they want to boost sales for a sequel they repackage the game depending on country.
in the UK they should name the game after the Spitfire. in the US thy should name it after the MUSTANG. etc.
that way the game would sell more copies.

No, I don't think they should give in to American ignorance. Seriously, the IL2 was the most produced combat aircraft of WWII. It did more to destroy the German army than any American aircraft did.
American involvement was just a race to secure Europe and snatch German technological assets - like Von Braun, who launched America to the moon. Germany was doomed before we got involved. We didn't want the Russians to have it all - and the rest of Europe for that matter.
We were on more friendly terms with the Germans than the Russians almost immediately after Germany's defeat.
American history for American consumption has been dumbed down enough over the years. IL2 has and always will be a refreshing perspective. Whoring it out to the lowest American common denominator would ruin the game.

This link I found shows BoP at #6 in the top 10 sales in the UK for PS3. Pretty good I think...

PS3 game sales reinvigorate UK software chart
PlayStation 3 game sales have soared in the latest UK all-formats chart, with a bundle incorporating the new slim Sony console and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare helping the game to leap from number 10 in the chart to number 3.
Sales of Modern Warfare were up 128 per cent in total, taking the game to its highest chart position in 18 months, while Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 recorded a sales increase of 38 per cent and Fight Night Round 4 68 per cent, with PlayStation 3 versions accounting for the majority of the rise.
Meanwhile, holding on to the number one position in the chart for a second week was Batman: Arkham Asylum. Sales of the game dropped 27 per cent, but not enough for the game at number two, Wii Sport Resort, to outdo it.
Heading down the chart this week were former number one Ashes Cricket 2009, which dropped two places to number five, and Call of Duty: World At War, which went from number six to number eight.
Two new releases entered the top ten - IL2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey and Dissidia: Final Fantasy. Wii Fit climbed one place to number four and three of last week's top ten, Wolfenstein, Mario Kart Wii and Lego Batman: The Videogame, dropped down to numbers 11, 12 and 14 respectively.
The full UK all-formats chart from Chart Track for the week ending September 5 is as follows:
01 Batman: Arkham Asylum
02 Wii Sports Resort
03 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
04 Wii Fit
05 Ashes Cricket 2009
06 IL2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey
07 Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10
08 Call of Duty: World at War
09 Fight Night Round 4
10 Dissidia: Final Fantasy

Since IL2 BoP has only been release a couple of days ago i'm not sure if that's actually a bad number when compared with other XBOX "flightsim's" (lets say games with planes instead)
A couple of number's from Mygamercard :
Blazing Angels : 134,845
Blazing Angels 2 : 50,015
Over-G : 137,492
Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X : 79,986
ACE COMBAT 6 : 246,486
Battlefield 1943™ : 100,753
Not sure how this number's actually translate to sales figures but it's the available info ( PS: that and Il2 in top ten sales UK, just saw the previous post)

I do not disagree or condemn this statement. However, I've never met anyone who wasn't somewhat "arrogant or proud" of where they come from. Americans by NO means have a monopoly on arrogance.

Personally I will wait to buy this game until a patch or two comes out (especially for the "german cockpits"-issue and hopefully improved performance).
I'm not too concered about the game's longevity though. The community for a game like this will probably live longer than say, FPS games where there's always something "bigger and better" coming soon (modern warfare 2, anyone?). I think BoP will be the ONLY option for a realistic console flight sim for a long time, so hopefully there will be (enough) players to show that.

I agree, as long as patching covers the obvious issues...

Dude -- you have serious anger issues, and even more serious intelligence issues.
The original post had nothing to do with "American Ignorance". I have lived and traveled all over the world, and in every (participating) country I have visited (all three major axis countries, and the major allied powers)-- guess what? They all have differing views of their participation in the war. Americans were the Arsenal of Democracy, Britain stopped the Germans on the last stand of their Island, Russians gave more blood than any nation to blunt the Blitzkrieg. I respect that. They all have a story to tell, and intelligent people piece together history from all sides and form the best version of the truth they can come up with.
The original poster was merely making a realistic marketing suggestion. What British Kid doesn't dream of being a Spitfire pilot? What German Kid wouldn't want to fly a FW-190, defending the homeland? Are these kids full of "American Ignorance"?
My last point is this. "American Ignorance" is usually attributed to viewing the entire world through the single lens of American experience, which is something you do without realizing it. You certainly made your point about American Ignorance, but not in the way you intended.

I needed to replace a cracked disc and can say finding a local copy was very, very difficult. I believe this game is pretty much sold out or in a limited supply. Gamestops did not have any XBox versions online and none in the local stores near me. I did find a Best Buy that had a limited supply only because they were stacking different games on top of each other. Lots of stocking stuffers and people waiting on patches. It will improve when MW2 calms down but thats a heck of a game too. Just can't play both a once.
Its got great detail, and love wingin a plane and making him spin, I don't worry about kills anymore but try to move quickly through the targets with out getting hit myself. Thats the tough part because of the spawn close to the action.

PS3 = 180,000 copies sold

Seriously, I can't stand miserable Americans that buy into all the anti-u.s. hate around the world, every country has their skeletons in their closets.. and to say that all we did was swoop in at the end and take German technology is complete crap... Did you not forget that we were fighting a two front war and that we supplied EVERY single one of our allies in some form from pretty much the VERY beginning, just because we didn't have boots on the ground in Europe til late, doesn't mean we weren't there...
I agree with what that one guy said about the name, "IL2 Sturmovik", even people that know a lot about WW2 will still look at it and be hesitant to buy it cause of the unique, mysterious title..
Just look at the PC version, only titled "Wings of Prey", they obviously did some market research themselves..
Fuzzy- have atleast some pride, because no matter how much sucking up and apologizing you might do, Europeans and such will STILL not like us.

If you think BOP is slow here, you should look at the Russian BOP forums. It finally dawned on me that there's no Russians here cause they're on their non-latin forum, so I went and found it... and there is not even 1 page of topics. You can see the latest threads, all the way back to the in-development threads, all on one short list.
But IL-2 Sturmovik is a name that has been heard by everyone who flies flight sims... on PC it is huge. Better to call it IL-2 Sturmovik than something like, idn, Heroes over Europe? Spits n' Schmitts? 'Canes, Mustanes, and other Planes... Run n' Gun Fun P51... Yak Attack...
There was a good turn-based game from the '90's called Achtung Spitfire... that is a great name for a ww2 air battle game.
Just look at the PC version, only titled "Wings of Prey", they obviously did some market research themselves..
Wings of Prey is an alternate, bad translation of the Russian title, Крылатые Хищники, which literally means "Winged Predators."
Like many of the PSN trophy names, and the cutscene narration, it looks like they didn't have a native English speaker to vet the translations... They got it right the first time with Birds of Prey, Wings of Prey sounds funny.

I wouldn't think of apologizing for 8 years of foreign policy that I didn't vote for. You'd have to be blind to not see why anti-US feelings have been stronger lately. I have plenty to be proud of, just not my country. Patriotism in the face of America's Bush years is called fascism.
Maybe things will turn around. Too bad the reality is that Americans are so stupid they'll vote Obama out after 4 years and elect another bible-beating facist redneck to put the final nail in this country's coffin. Then we can invade Iran and have some real fun.
As for our involvement in Europe - Germany was defeated before we entered. Our entry into that war was simply to prevent the Russians from occupying all of Europe. The technological assets were icing on the cake. The cold war practically started before WWII ended.
As for the name change - maybe MAYBE the spitfire/hurricane would work. At least those planes have cockpits. Using the mustang name given that the roster of American planes is incomplete and the P-51 doesn't even have a cockpit - it wouldn't make sense and would be a shallow attempt to appeal to American gamers (yea - kinda like "whoring" something out). Marketing is great and all, but not when it is done in a way that misrepresents the game.

My response was regarding the name changing on the American version of the game. I said nothing about the British or other versions. So take it in that context.
Also, as I said above, there are not enough American planes (and the mustang itself lacks a real cockpit) for the suggested name change to make sense. That kind of marketing move would look like a shallow attempt to gain extra sales while misrepresenting the product at the same time.
Also, you don't know enough about me to reach any conclusion about my intelligence. If you are basing it off what I write on an internet forum, then either you yourself are lacking in intelligence or you simply meant it as an insult. I'll be nice and assume the latter.

Man. If you're so upset, you need to get out and do something about it. Wow.
Our entry into that war was simply to prevent the Russians from occupying all of Europe.
Some would say Japan had something to do with it. And after WW1 most Americans did'nt care what happened in Europe. That is why we were'nt involved earlier.

I don't know if you've read the recent polls or watched the recent world news, but the only area in which Obama has the majority of the country in favor of him, is for the troop surge in Afghanistan... lol, I voted for him in the hopes he would be moderate... he isn't, for all Bush's wrongs and as Muse put it, "crimes against the Earth".. he kept us safe from another attack and if it wasn't for corrupt wallstreet/financial institutions ( which there will always be corruption in which man is involved) he would have been seen nowdays as an American hero..
Independents are leaving Obama in droves, and for the record... what exactly did the last administration do so wrong and why is it so important that the world loves us?? They never will!!!!! WE SAVED EUROPE FROM THE NAZIS, REBUILT THEIR COUNTRIES, AND LET THEM LIVE IN PEACE AND THEY HATE US FOR IT!!!!! LOL.
Sorry for going off topic, I'm still waiting for XBox patch, so there's not much to talk about on topic.
like I said before the Americans are trying to make up for being late to last two world wars by being really punctual this time...
People are lazy, hating America.
They should try something challenging, like hating Greenland, or the Galapagos.
hurry up with the patch already!
