View Full Version : Plane damage and keeping it alive

I used to play a lot of combat flight sims, and one of the funnest things to me was fighting to keep bombers or planes alive after being tagged a few times. In the Demo it seems like once you take a decent amount of damage to the point where its a guarantee that you will go down, the comp takes control and ur offered to respawn and watch your bird go down. Please tell me that this isnt the case. Even if your craft is severely damaged its always fun to see if you can pull off a crash landing with out making it go boom.

I think Anton said he would consider it.

Considering disabling the automatic bails and instant explosions.

I think they should. Because some people can are pretty crafty. and lets say its one of those base attack versions and your heavily disabled, why not Kamikaze right into a ground target. Or make it where if you get shot up and make it to your friendly base u get repaired. Landing a damaged craft is real tough and it might cut down on people trying to crash after u tag them.

In the game, at least on realistic and simulator, you are very often shot to the point where you are barely in control of your aircraft in the exact manner I believe you are refferring to, and yes it is fun, albeit usually extremely difficult to try and bring the aircraft down safely in this state. This happens most in multiplayer since the AI are so dumb in single player.

They said they wanted to give players a more satisfying experience with hollywood style explosions when you shoot down the other plane in MP and it crashes to the ground. Then they forgot to give you credit for the kill.:grin:

Hello guys, breaking my virginity here
Regarding automatic bailouts and hollywood explosions.
When I first played the demo, this was the biggest disappointment I suffered. I hated how your targets just explode all of a sudden and you dont even get to see the full scale of the incredible damage model on this franchise. This mainly applies to bombers, it took a lot longer for the engines to catch fire in 1946 and when you rarely did get it to catch fire it was a nice feeling because it didnt happen that often. In this it happens all the time. I have played this game just once on Arcade and Realistic to unlock Simulator, which is all I play on.
IMO the BEST thing about Il2 1946 was the damage model and it was just incredible to see your target fall apart after tagging it in different areas. I dont care about stupid hollywood explosions thats the biggest load of tosh I have heard. This silly feature impacts belly landings also and I love seeing my plane fall apart piece by piece after a failed (or successful) crash landing.
Im confident this can be amended in terms of competency. I used to play MS Combat Flight Sim for a little while and as far as I know that online was great. The player still got the kill if his enemy crashed after taking shots. If he got tagged by more than one attacker then maybe give the kill to the one who did most damage and an assist to the other or something. Im sure this can all be sussed out with some thought.
Please get rid of it, this is the only moan I have for the game.
Although some controller tweaks wouldnt go amiss (amend the looking around). This is way too important to be flawed in Simulator.
Despite this, I own the 360 version and I absolutely love it. I play on the controller, and have completed the campaign on simulator with minimum frustration, maybe this gives some insight to the controller moaners out there. No offence, I just dont find it a problem to play with the controller and maybe with some tolerance and determination you could also get used to it.
I am going to complete the single missions now on simulator and unlock planes, I dont want to rush through them because I want to play online but I refuse to without a fix to the intentional crashing and I suppose online can only get better in time.
Hope to see you guys online soon
Tough choice whether to post this in this thread or the suggestions one, but imo that one has gone downhill cant imagine the devs even bother looking at it

I admire your willpower, I couldn't wait and once I unlocked Sim I was straight online and if you are playing Sim online then the problem is less intentional crashes and more people not getting credit for it.
I don't think I'm far wrong if I say a good number of the people playing Sim mode are already on this forum and are highly unlikely to intentionally crash to avoid someone getting credit for a kill. Infact last night there were a few people flying about without ammo for a good while refusing to crash just to get a new plane.

I played one player match on sim, and there was not much wrong with it tbh. Im not really that much of a hardcore simmer but I am determined to spend more time with BOP. I spent a lot of effort tailing one guy and tagged him a few times, he crashed. I knew it wasnt intentional because I got him real good but its desperately unfair that I didnt get the loss.
The way I see it is that it seems like a simple problem. Im no developer but these guys are ******* geniuses surely they can sort it out. Hopefully it will be done by the time I have finished single player fully.
