View Full Version : DLC for pre-orders?

I heard a comment in the live broadcast about 2 exclusive aircraft for those who pre-order from a company in Europe. Anyone know if this will be released for those of us in the U.S.?
I have a preorder from gamestop, so I know I get a free T-shirt. I'll be kinda mad if we don't get the aircraft over here...

Yeah the 2 aircraft are available to customers that preorder from a certain shop and in the UK. The planes will be available as DLC from day 1 because if you don't have them you will not be able to enter a server if the host does as happens with all other DLC on consoles. No buy, no play with that host.
I'd rather the T shirt unless they are going to take the piss with the DLC prices.

Let me make sure I'm 100% on this. If I were to preorder from here and get the two planes, can I not play with others who didn't? Or just when I want to host a game with those paticular planes?

Of course you can play with others, but yea probably not use those planes with others who dont have them, but they might be on disc already and that the download only UNLOCKS the planes.
Happens with other games who have their DLC in there updates already so you can still play with others who dont have it ;)

There are many games where you can't connect with people who don't have the DLC. Just depends on if the DLC is really downloaded or not.

Since the planes were held back before the game went gold they are probably on the disc already. Anton mentioned bringing out patches and DLC at the same time, so probably any aircraft would come in the patch and any new maps in the DLC itself.

False.
No console game includes DLC files in updates/patches.
If you do not have the correct and same files as the host you cannot enter their server. You would not be able to 'SEE' the aircraft if you did not have the models on your console. The ONLY game where you can enter a server without the relevant files is Forza 2 and instead of cars you see black boxes.
Your only hope is that they already exist on the disc, so then you will have the files and will be able to enter, but this means for you to fly them you will have to pay extra for content already on the disc, like EA's 108k unlock keys.
Anton really need to make clear what happens to those that don't pre-order from that particular shop in regard to how this is handled online. Is content on the disc being held back for more money, or will you have to buy the content to be able to enter servers with a host that does have it.

I think your on the PS3 so I'm not sure, but with the 360 yes that is the case. You can chose to enable/disable the DLC from the options menu so you could play with those without but then you wouldn't be able to use the content.
It works that way with every 360 game I have except Forza 2 car packs, it will still let you race them but they are just black boxes not the actual model.
But I'm going to assume it is handled like every other 360 game I have, if you don't have the content then no you cannot enter the hosts server unless they have disabled the content first.

Sorry, to resurrect a slightly old topic but figured better than creating a new one. I was hoping someone could just assure me that these two DLC aircraft you'd receive as a pre-order bonus from GAME will also be available as buyable DLC on both XBOX LIVE and the Playstation Network?
I still haven't decided between the 360 and PS3 versions and with some sites charging as low as approximately £27 for the game, I really don't want to have to pay a full £40 unless its the only way to get the 2 aircraft. I do recall the pre-order Ace Combat 6 bonus as those two aircraft never appeared as buyable DLC.

Ahhh this sucks. I probably wouldn't buy the DLC planes right away, but it would be frustrating to be unable to play with people just because they DL'd a couple of planes.
I know in some games like Burnout Paradise and Midnight Club there are cars available to download, but having those cars doesn't mean you can't play with others who don't have the cars.
I don't see why this game can't just set it up that way.

it says on uk site that the 2 planes are p-47d and ta152h1, in the plane list it says u can use p-47 but is it the same p-47 or a diff model and will the ta152 be in us version, or is it like call of duty were if u pre order all u get is to unlock the carbine at lvl 1 insted of lvl 65????

Looks like it's only on the Xbox!? PS3 pre-order gets you a... Theme!? :(
Spose you get to take pictures on PS3. Hmmm...

Well that duly sucks, I'll admit I've heard on this site some people saying that the two planes will be available as DLC for both games on Day 1 but I feel a bit unsure. Perhaps should contact publishers directly. If not, may order both copies and in case this turns out to be true, return for a full refund the 360 copy. Whilst graphically was said to be slightly better, 360 is too noisy and PS3 takes more flightsticks options (bought a 2nd hand Ace Edge which was crap).

it says that it unlocks with codes so if someone buys it and he puts the code on this site we will al have the 2 planes
SleepTrgt

Its a code like a pre paid code. so only usable once.

My take on special DLC that people get for preordering is that they will be able to play with everyone, its just that everyone that doesn't have the 2 planes will not be able to use them and will have to compete against the planes.

I can't believe that the dlc will be that expensive for just 2 planes, so I imagine it would still work out cheaper to get the game from one of the sites offering it for about £27-£28 and just buy the planes as dlc, I can't see that the combined cost would be anywhere near the £39.99 that Game are charging
David603
08-25-2009, 10:40 PM
Maybe 200 or 300 MS pts (£1.60-2.40 approx) for both planes at a guess. Shouldn't really cost more than that.

It would be a pretty boneheaded move to not do something like Burnout. I'm sure that there will be a pretty small group of people playing this multiplayer and segmenting the online user base right out of the gate seems like a bad idea. I think that I'd be more inclined to buy DLC after seeing it in action.

What's to say that the pre order codes won't be entered in game, and usable for everyone, once they hit the internet following release. I've had several games with "exclusive pre order bonuses" that turned out to be codes usable by everyone once the codes were posted on cheat sites. eg, Fuel promo codes, The Steel Wheels GT in burnout paradise, and 3 "exclusive" Jets in HAWX.

The online game store GoGamer.com currently has the 360 version with the pre-order bonus planes (P 47D & TA 152H) {its actually advertised as part of a 48HR Sale)
It does seem a bit unfair to not offer two planes to the PS3 fans, as one myself I'd like to have some flexibility from day one in my hanger) one of the best marketing ideas was having different plane DLC offers (like UBIsoft did with HAWX) at different sellers.

The Pre-order Bonus planes in hawx weren't DLC. They Just gave codes to unlock the planes in game. Anybody who had the codes off a cheat site could unlock all 3 bonus planes.

The better odds say that they will make the planes available to everybody at launch in North America. We are getting the game a few days early as it stands, 8-2 according to Gamestop. I can't see them leaving such an iconic plane as the P-47D out of the game in North America, as it was one of the major reasons why we won the war in the air and on the ground. You can't have an American campaign with ground-attack missions and not have at least one version of the P-47, be it the P-47B with the razorback cockpit, P-47-C with the improved razorback, or the P-47D, which is the most widely known and widely used model of "the Jug." The P-51D is a great plane, but you talk to any pilot from the era and he will tell you that it was not a great ground-attack aircraft. Statistical fact: if you research all of the great P-51D aces of the war, 85% were shot down by ground fire during a low-level mission. One single round into the coolant tank, located on the underside of the P-51D, and it's game over. The Merlin engine was the best high-altitude piston engine of the war but it just didn't make the cut for low-level work.

anyone got the PS3 pre-order theme?
nah it doesnt seem worth it really. considering ive pre-ordered it from play.com for £29.99 and Game.co.uk sells it for 39.99. its just not worth it paying an extra £10 for a theme

As long as the planes are released as DLC later, i don't mind. All i know is that I get a sweet T-shirt from Gamestop.

False.

Well that's totally wrong for a start, I can quote many games with DLC that are included in patches and updates and you only have to purchase the unlock. It's the sensible way to do it.

Agreed. Good example would be Battlefield Bad Company. The ps3 got a patch that included trophies as well as 4 new maps for free. Codw@w also gave us a patch that included a free map. And Socom will give us some free dlc in patch 1.6 even though that game sucks. Maybe on xbox you still have to download things from the store, but on playstation it usually comes in a patch.

I'm pretty sure the planes will be unlockable in the full game but avaliable in MP straight away for those with the code. They did the same with Forza and selected retailers. It just made said car avaliable without having to be at the required level to unlock it.
