...I´ve just noticed some interessting news. I don´t know if this has been already posted here ;-) :

Milton Keynes, 11th August 2009 – On Thursday 13 August, 505 Games, in collaboration with 1C Company, will give fans eagerly awaiting the 3 September release of IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds Of Prey the chance to watch the game being demoed live by members of the team through popular social networking site Twitter via UStream.

The demo session will be hosted by Mark Allen, European Communications Manager for 505 Games, who will guide viewers through a selection of some of the fifty missions available in the game that take place in locations as diverse as Battle of Britain, Stalingrad and the Battle of the Bulge. An exclusive UStream channel (http://www.ustream.tv) has been created to broadcast the demo to attendees who will be able to engage in live chat with other viewers throughout.

A Q&A session will also follow the demonstration to give fans the chance to pose questions to the developers on the inner workings of the title. For anyone who misses the event as it happens, all chat posts, questions and answers will include the hashtag #IL2LiveDemo for easy reference. The demo session will go live from 9:30pm AEST on Thursday 13 August. For further updates and details on how to view the live stream please refer to http://twitter.com/IL2BirdsOfPrey

I hope the first thing they do is to jump into a 109 and show us whether or not it has a cockpit. Time to put the rumour to bed.

Why stupid? The name states Live Il-2 Demo Broadcast, no words about additional missions.

As I cant access the chat area of the stream, can anyone tell me if someone already asked about the "virtual cockpit only" horror-story?

I thought that by "Demo broadcast" they meant demoing the full version of the game, which they're finally doing. Finally, they're showing something relatively new, the Berlin level, although I saw this in one of the earlier videos.

The framerate feels really choppy. I hope it is caused the streaming and compression and not by the game..

2:25 danneale: Mark from 505 Games here
2:25 danneale: fire questions(not all at once!)
2:25 MARTIANS: yeh, go ahead, ask me
2:25 MARTIANS: ;-)
2:25 H_Lecter: is there a cockpit view for the german planes or not?2:25 spunkyrakune: What game modes will be availaboe in MP?
2:26 elneilios84: will there be a flightstick bundle?
2:26 MARTIANS: do you have freeflight on all the maps?
2:26 danneale: Yes there is a cockpit view for German planes
2:26 H_Lecter: real or virtual cockpit..?2:27 danneale: IN MP - Dogfight, team dogfight, strike, capture the airfield, up to 16 players
2:27 danneale: flightsticks are avilable, and supported... it will depend on individual retailers
2:27 Spotter5: Can we pilot the ME262 in multiplayer/singleplayer?
2:27 danneale: real cockpits2:27 RawKryptonite: In ground strike, will each team be set to use a certain number of full sized bombers? assign player(s) to it? are there "slots" for bombers to fill so teams have equal number of them?
2:28 danneale: (almost every plane historically correct)
2:28 danneale: a couple without cockpit views
2:28 H_Lecter: *hugs mark and everyone else*
2:28 H_Lecter: it must be xmas, thanks guys!

That worries me - I want to read something like "some german planes will have cockpits in MP mode" - a couple without could mean all german planes without. Chats are confusing sometimes.

Hmm thought I'd ask just to see what they'd say...

1:46 elneilios84: ah sorry missed your reply. Can the buttons, sticks be remapped to some extent? E.g. flip the function of the analog sticks?
1:47 Spotter5: Does the game reuire a HDD install, and does it have trophies?
1:48 danneale: a definitive graphic layout of the Aviator would be helpful, in both arcade/realistic as well as sim. especially sim LOL --- we will look inot that :)
1:49 danneale: elneilios84: - Yes they can be

This is controversial isn't it?

Yeah, found that quite interesting. I always take the latest peace of info that I get from a publisher as up to date and reliable info until proven otherwise. If I found out that someone lied to me I will not bother asking in the future.

We will see when the game comes out. I'll buy it anyway and will post here about my experience especially regarding those sensitive topics like controls and cockpit views.

Actually re-reading my question, I don't think I was clear enough... I asked if the analog stick functions can be flipped. This could easily be misconstrued to mean "can the X/Y axis be inverted" and we all know that they can even in the demo. I'm betting this is why he answered yes.

Well, honestly it's a non-issue for me. The AV8R standard button layout works (not all buttons are perfectly located but I got used even to the trim button).

The question and answer about cockpit view was very clear, so if I don't see German cockpits in the finished version I will ignore any further game coming from Gaijin/1C/505. Spending 60 Euros on that game will not leave me broke, so I'll simply take the risk and trust them for once.

That's my understanding. I think he answered that twice, saying inverting the axis.

Same here, I'm not that bothered about the control layout - I asked on behalf of the many that it does bother. Full German cockpits is a much bigger issue for me so I'm quite pleased with the answer.

'Strike' sounds like a great MP mode but does anyone know if MP servers are skill restricted i.e. only sim players, only realistic players etc.

I know it sounds like a no-brainer but in my experience gaming on console MP leaves a lot to be desired.

The quality of gaming on pc or console is limited by the people you game with. You need a good friends list.
The game is hosted by a player, not game servers. Host has control over what type of room it is.

2:26 H_Lecter: real or virtual cockpit..?

2:27 danneale: real cockpits
People seem to be getting confused over the term virtual cockpit, I've always understood virtual cockpit (http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&safe=off&rlz=1C1GGLS_en-GBGB337GB337&q=virtual%20cockpit&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi) to be the type of view where you see the interior of the plane rendered in 3D. So the question "real or virtual" is absolutely meaningless. Who knows what the developer meant when he answered that way?

Well, it's not me who invented those terms. It's the language of the developers and those terms are being used in game.

[EDIT:

That was what i was wondering about!!

The french 'no german cockpit' micromania PRE(!)view says that they only could do MP on arcade!?!?

If you are host why coudn't the guy just setup a MP in sim mode????

So, what kind of copy/build did the guy have?

Anyway, i hope for some german cockpits (as does everybody else here)

I find it funny that a gaming website enjoys higher credibility among the community than the word of the developers.

I rather tend to believe the makers of the game...

I highly recommend anybody to watch the recorded broadcast if you haven't done so yet and switch the audio on. There's lots of interesting background info about game modes and other details.

Well, the Micromania PREview started the whole 'no german cockpits' fire, and was in fact THE reason why ppl (like yourself) specificly asked the devs during the broadcast.

What i did was just WONDERING what the micromania guy actually PREviewed. Prolly not the final/retail version.

Of course i believe the word of a dev. So, the broadcast gives hope/evidence that german cocpits will be in (but not all:))

+1 ;-)

I'm aware of that. But even after the question was answered, there were people saying that the devs lie and Micromania was right. That's what I was referring to - and I know that you were not one of them. :)

If we could just get an answer from Anton about whether the 109/190 have the proper cockpit views, then I would be happy, or unhappy, depending on the response, but at least we wouldn't have all this speculation. With all the fuss you would have thought he would answer, since he can apparently spare the time to answer the question of whether the German planes will have swastikas on them.
