I just have to ask you guys this. I'm not really just talking about BOP. I mean Blazing angels and HOE are this way too. Whats up with the pitch and roll on the left stick ? Is this not the dumbest thing ever ? Even in a FPS you aim with your right hand. If I remember my science correctly the left side of the brain controls the right hand and it also controls precision movements.
These Dev's really need to make this a option to switch. I mean its great if your a left handed person, but anyone that is right handed is going to hate this layout.
Thank heavens BOP has flightstick support, because I probably wouldn't have got it if it didn't.
So I'm wondering,, am I really the only one that feels this way ?
I pray this isn't a patteren that we are going to see happen to all flight games.
Let me know how important this concern is to you guys ? I'm really curious if I'm in the minority on feeling this way.
I know a lot of people that won't buy console flight games because of this.
Thanks for your time and consideration, DESODE

This has got to be the 3rd or 4th thread on this subject.
Please search before posting. I believe this is the ONLY control scheme BoP will have.

suppressing feedback is the worst possible thing community members do.
The more people that speak their mind on the subject , the more the possibility that we will recieve a fix in the future

I'm okay with that. It's just that he should have chosen to post this in another thread. Didn't you have one guiltyspark?

ya but developers tend to read new threads more than they do old ones
Yes you can speak your mind all you want! Just put in an existing thread (if applicable) If you keep posting it will come up the top - like a new thread!!!!

Sorry I didn't have the time to search through threads. It was on my mind at the moment. Just lock this thread then, or delete and next week when I have time to search for a thread that specificly mentions this issue. I will then bumb that thread up by posting my opinion.
Sorry to have irritated people.

Actually.... the more threads which qustion the developers decisions the more likely changes will be considered. And too be honest this thread is more of an attention grabber...
What's the deal with these messed up flight controls????
I'll tell you what the deal is... either laziness... or one of the publishers census tests.
Either way I'm right handed....when I jerk off I use my right hand...so when I fliy a plane I want to use my right hand too.

In that case I seriously recommend the single phallus (Saitek AV8R) or the double phallus (Ace Edge/Hori). This will be a greater sensation than the ordinary joypad.;)
yes but if yove got it condenced all in one place it makes it easier to read everyones thoughts! Its like walking into a bar and asking for, lets say, orange juce and he hands you some oranges and a jucer. its common sence that you would get it all in one place.

Yeah and its common sence that the sticks should have been switched !
LOL ! I hear what you say on the condenced though. But I would rather see it condenced under a specific. I personally don't want to see all control issues under one control thread. People don't have the time to read 30 posts on one thread before they add their opinion. The average person just doesn't have the time to do that.
DESODE
I see but if you had folders in a forum that would work better! It wouldn't be 500 posts long but split into manageable segments (back to oranges lol) Just to tidy it up a bit and stop all the similar threads blocking the important ones!

THE REASON THEY PUT FLIGHT CONTROLS ON THE LEFT STICK -
Because otherwise you would have to take your thumb off of the controls in order to hit the face buttons.
Next question?

In my opinion flying with the left stick makes much more sense and will become second nature. I have been playing il2 for pc like this for some time (except you dont have to click the right stick to feelook and the rudders are triggers and throttle is bumpers). If you think about it then the more it makes sense. If you are flying with the right stick then you would have to take your thumb off to hit the buttons. The same principle is in the fps you play like call of duty. if a is your jump button and you controled your players movement with the right stick then how could you jump on top of objects, or how could you keep moving while reloading. I think this is the best possible way to map the buttons and I have no problem going from playing this and then playing a fps like call of duty.
It is all in all just a smarter layout for the kind of game it is.

In every other shooter game, I assume you mean first person shooters, you don't stall, spin out or lose your target because you took your thumb off of the stick. In FPS all movement is on the left stick also.
I agree the config needs more options but since everyone was wondering why you have to fly with the left stick I just thought I would illuminate them.

This is the way I see it. First of all, I'm right-handed, but always fly with the left stick, just seems more natural.. and to whoever said its like not like an FPS because your not aiming with the right stick, you are incredibly wrong. In an FPS, what controls your movement?
The left stick, therefore plane controls are set to left stick. Right stick in a FPS control where you look, which is also aiming, but technically, where you 'look' and therefore right stick controls your camera, allowing you to looks around the cockpit.
But yes, they don't need to change the controls, they need to add. I like flying like this, along with many others, then again people like it the way your mentioning.
So they should have both options, not just one. Anyway, eventually this won't matter to me anyway, since I'm going to eventually get a joystick that actually works with IL 2 BoP effectively and efficiently.

I have no problem controlling Pitch/Roll on the left stick. That's the way I fly on Over G. I've always used the right stick in OGF, AC6, and HAWX for looking around, and left stick for control of plane. I'm right handed too, and it's in no way awkward to me.

100% agree. I can barely keep the plane level with all of the controls on the left stick.

There should be a choice for people who want it, but I have found it easy to switch from flying with the right stick to flying with the left, and given the choice, I've even come to prefer the set up this way when playing the PC version of Il2 with a 360 controller.

Hi all.
Welcome to the world of console flight games. Almost every one controls this way back to the first d-pad type controlers.
I'm afraid that the console world has a momentum of it's own on the subject. Anton and the gang were right to follow it...
Get a flight stick and let it go.... you that want the change are in the vast minority...
The unposting masses will be fine with the left stick.
Again sorry... just sayin...

The developers completly forgot about RC fliers, which as you pointed out has the throttle on left and aileron and evelator on the right. I tried the demo, and even though I haven't flown RC in a while, it is very difficult to break this habit, one I'm not sure I want to because of the cost of getting it wrong on the flying field. At the very least, they should have a "southpaw" configuration that would allow for another config.

With all the complaints I'm almost sure Techland will add control options in a patch.
Right hand for control...left for the throttle is the way you would of flown a real WW2 fighter..

Guilty - I think with your big-mouth that you can quite legitimately have a number of threads for a single topic.

I like the gamepad configuration as is, it makes sense to have the main controls on the left stick because that's how it is on a real flight joystick.

Has there been any update on if the sticks can be switched. i loved the demo version of this game and have already pre-ordered it.
Last month i bought myself an R/C Spitfire, which has the throttle on the left and controls on the right. Whilst my video game flying far outstrips my R/C flying in terms of time served. I would really like the option to switch sticks, so its the same for my R/C and 360 gaming.
Any news please (i searched for "Switch controls" and this was the only thread)
