View Full Version : Some problems with Il-2 Sturmovik Birds of Prey

Overall, I think they did a pretty good job with this game. There are a few things that i think they did very poorly on that were in the first game that they should have kept. Such as, when a enemy bails out, they automaticly survive it seems. In the first Il-2, there was always a chance that they the pilot or gunner or whatever could get killed in the plane or, not have a chance to bail out. The pilot or gunner in the first game always had to wait until they had a chance to bail out if they were still alive. Another thing is after they bail out, you cant shoot them! You also cant ram your plane into them which i think is very unrealistic. Another thing i have a big problem with is you cant crash land it seems with out exploding for no reason at all. I have tryed to crash land or even land in some cases and i go skidding and the plane is fine (with the exception of damaged landing gear in some cases) and it stops unharmed, and then BOOM! For no reason at all!
Another thing that i do not like about this game is that the old Il-2 was based on skill in most cases of how long you could stay in the air or land etc.. In this one, the game decides wether or not you stay in the air. Such as when you have a engine on fire, it just automaticly bails you out. You dont have a choice. In the first game, YOU get to decide when to bail out, not the game. In the first game because of this feature you could stay in the air longer because what if the fire that you have, just went out about 10 seconds after you bailed. The pilot might still have a chance to safely land/crashland the plane. Also, even when you do land, you cant turn your engine off!
A few bugs/glitches that i have found are:
*When you look at the mirror in the spitfire (im not sure if this is in all planes or not i havent checked) if there are some planes in front of your mirror (like in Real Life the mirror would be blocking your view of them) you still see the dots of the aircraft (in sim mode) just as if they were acutaly behind you. This has fooled me several times into thinking they were behind me not in front of me.
* I dont know if this is actualy a bug/glitch but ive noticed that on the spitfire, the left wing when fully damaged (and still attached) only takes a few bullet holes and a slight rip in the wing on the back of the wing towards the fuselodge. The right wing always has a HUGE hole in the middle, several bullet holes, and a slight rip in the same place. It seems you can never get a huge hole in the left wing though.
Id like to know if i am the only one thinking these things so please post your response! If you have any more bugs/glitches you can post them too.

If you read these threads you will find the answer to all of your questions.
As far as the instant explosions from hitting the ground, let's just hope that was because it was tutorial and campaign. Hopefully single player and training mode will be different.
BTW, i have put a large hole in my left wing.

Nope.... Anton already stated that the instant explosions were added in for "Hollywood Effect" ... so that is how the final product will be. Just another way to dumb down the game. Irritating. but they have to sell this to the general masses not just the sim fans.

But i thought that was the whole point of having 3 different modes? :S

Its a shame, but dont mind too much, You get enough flying action and thats what THIS game is about i guess.

The planes always exploding is not really a big deal imho. I wanted to play a flight sim and not a crash sim ;)
The thing about the enemies not being covered and hidden by the mirror is more difficult to understand for me. Could it be a bug maybe? I seriously hope this will be different in the final game.

You probably wouldn't be saying that if you've played IL2 on the PC....
Some really really good times can be had in the sim just tring to survive a crash or belly landing. Watching your plane breaking apart and then exiting the plane after you've survived is a pretty good feeling. Here's a crazy example:

Wow! See that is what i love about the PC Il-2s. On this game, you blow up if your wing touches the ground pretty much. Even if its at 80 mph.

Awesome video! Well, I see your point mate.
On the other hand see it positive, you trade that in for stunning graphics. Sure both would be better, but when I have to choose I take the new version, even if it's slightly dumbed down compared to the realism in the PC original.

that is not possible though , the plane weighs over 2000 pounds , the second it would have touched the ground it would have gripped it and flown apart.
especially if it was inverted
belly landings are not even a skill thing , they are a luck thing

Yes I realize this was an extreme example I posted. I've been playing 5 years and never had anything like that happen LOL. Here is something even better for you....1:20s for the EPIC win

Well... there won't be any crash landings in BOP but the dogfighting will of course be great!
