It's just a thought so please don't flame me:
Considering that the really good joysticks that are compatible with BoP are only available in very limited numbers, isn't it likely that all players that were not lucky enough to get their hand on an Ace Edge or Hori HOTAS joystick will constantly lose to the more lucky well equipped ones and soon quit in frustration?

I doubt it.
A flight stick certainly increases the immersiveness of the game, but it doesn't necessarily improve performance.
Yeah, in sim mode it does for sure because of the ability to look around much easier, but then I am betting most people who play sim mode will end up getting a flight stick.
The less hardcore and casual audience will do just fine with the standard controller. Just like they do without a wheel in games like Forza and GT.

I was going to post something to this effect also. I'd hate to see the game not live up to it's potential because of a lack of decent hardware. People who would like to play Sim mode can't or won't and I'd hate for the publisher to see that and think there's no interest in it and drop it from a sequel. That, and I want as many people to play with in Sim mode as possible. Basically, we're pinning our hopes on the Aviator stick.

This 100%!!!!! In Forza I have seen people with joystick spank people with a dedicated wheel. the wheel and flight stick add to the sim and immersion but people out there will compete just fine.
I always use a wheel/flight stick becuase its just more fun.

Its a bit of a shame really...played on the ace edge today and found it pretty disappointing, well for a £35-£40 stick it would be alright but its no longer made and costs more then that.
I'd love to see a top quality 1st party stick....I'd be happy to pay top £££ for it as well.
But I very much doubt this game will spark some hardware devs to pull there finger out....oh well.

Yeah, my thoughts. I read a thread on a games site and not only once I read there that 'simulation mode is terrible, I cannot play it'
What's the point in spending a lot of money into developing a proper simulation, when only 0.01 % of all players actually use it and all others prefer the dumbed down version?
I'm really excited to finally have an air combat simulation on the X360 and would hate to see it fail on the market due to a lack of hardware.
Somehow it's strange that an arcadey game like Ace Combat came bundeld with a proper HOTAS system and a real flight sim comes eventually bundled with a 40 $ piece of junk.

Not that strange.
Ace Combat is a long running successful console flight series that was pretty sure to have an audience.
It's interesting to the see the hate for it around here. I love Ace Combat, just like I am sure I am going to love BoP.
Just like I love both Forza and Burnout.
[EDIT]
Oh yeah... Hey MAYAman. :)

Nah, it's not exactly hate. I tried the demo and loved the graphics. It's just that all the weapon systems were so far off the real deal that I finally couldn't get myself to buy it.

BTW, as there are no AI wingmen, in MP you can use D-pad on a gamepad to look around :)

if the sticks were flipped this would have made the need for a joystick almost obsolete
Because the throttle sticks to where it is set you can just use your right hand for steering the plane and the dpad for looking around in the cockpit

Probably still difficult while controlling the plane with the left thumbstick, but it's definitely good news. Thanks for sharing all the info with us Anton!

Yes that is actually just as useless because ideally you want to be able to look and maneauver the plane at the same time...as is they can only look and adjust throttle and rudders because of the lack of stick control options...so really that is just as bad or worse then the other option of holding in the stick while they look....but hey this doesnt affect me because I bought the ace combat stick for $100, and have the aviator stick as a backup, because I am not a dumbass when it comes to getting the proper equipment for my gaming vice!

Yeah I'll probably just buy one of those Southpaw 360 controllers someone posted a link too yesterday... I suck at soldering :(

The Aviator works pretty well. About as well as any $50 stick and it's MUCH easier then using the regular controller.
Not sure why we couldn't just take a really good stick, pull out the PCB board and replace it with an Xbox controller or AV8TR board. Would take some soldering but with all the info available for modding 360 controllers I don't think it would be that hard.

That's actually a really good idea....shouldnt be too hard either.
