from the list of people's favourite planes 90%+ are covered by this meagre list...(spit,stang,109 and fw)...

with respect I doubt anyone's getting "hurt in the long run"...

whatever the final tally hopefully this game will be about quality not quantity.

What we know so far are 12 flyable fighters/bombers total in SP, MP will have 40-50 planes..."more than HAWX" as trk said.
SP is based on specific campaigns of the war, so I'd imagine those 12 represent what was used in those battles. For MP we're cut loose. ;)

I have a feeling we have not seen the final list of flyable planes by a long shot. Especially since the namesake of the game has yet to be confirmed as flyable. Of course, it is easier to be a continual buzz kill. ;)

Well the orignal had 30 planes and after all the addons it was up to ninty flyables and that still managed too be top quality so i dont think thats a issue there should be in my opinion 40 althoughter and 20 flyable at least

A lot of previews, like this one from Gamespy, talk about "40-50 period aircraft", but they don't usually specify how many are flyable.

This is the same guy who almost had a stroke waiting for the launch of the game's SITE.

Now the actual game, with the graphics, engine, physics and features - the whole killer package, the reason a lot of people (and probably you) check this forum every day; but only 8 planes flyable out of the box is now NOT worth buying?

You are a mystery, dude. That is rich.

p.s: we all know there's more flyable planes than just those.

Based on what I have read about the game on this forum and in the previews, there will be about 40 flyable planes in the game.

Of the 40 flyable planes, 12 Allied planes will be featured in the Single player historical campaign mode.

All 40 planes will be flyable in the Single player "Instant Action" (Training) mode as well as the Multiplayer mode.

The original IL2 came with very few flyable aircraft, it was after all a study sim of a single ground attack plane. Its 2009 now and has over 200 flyable aircraft. You might not get that many in BoP but what you have to understand is less planes = higher overall quality of the planes that are in. Check out Falcon 4, Lomac and DCS:BS. Not many flyables but very high quality.

Programming a complex flight model and damage model based on flight data is quite a complex task. Comparing it to hawx which you can almost certainly say does not have either a complex flight model or a flight model based on real world data isn't very valid.

dandymountfarto
07-07-2009, 03:10 PM
if i recall correctly, the first il-2 didnt even support playable flight modelling for multi-engine a/c, hence you could only fly single engined ones. they added that in the forgotten battles release.

i think its common knowledge now that there is going to be more than 8 flyable planes, but there has to be a balance or all the fantastic work that has gone into producing this title will be wasted if the core mechanics of the flight modelling is pants. go buy blazing angels if you're not fussed by that.

Thirded. One of my favorite whims in IL2 was just to take an aircraft for a spin, just take off (taxiing from the parking area would be fantastic if thats possible) take her up to her max altitude, do some aerobatics, buzz some towns and take in some scenery, and land. Its what virtual flying is all about - I can't wait to load it onto my Xbox :)

Anton that what you are telling us sounds really interesting.

Could you implement this mode for multiplayer?. I mean having the possibility of choosing all these conditions to make a quick coop would boost the playability.

Another quick question. When you create the training mission apart from choosing the type of targets, can you chose where those targets are gonna be on the map or they are placed automatically?.

Raw Kryptonite

Are the customizable training missions single player only or can you invite a friend or two to run it with you in other planes against what you set up?

I'm hoping we'll find out that you can do something like that. My understanding so far is that it's single player or multiplayer with human vs. human only. Is that correct? No cooperative missions against AI?
