Common mistake in console games. It is correctly identified as a Mustang Mk 1A (the British term), but it is a P-51 Mustang in U.S. nomenclature. The P-51A had an engine change (still Allison) and switched to 4 -50 cal - this was the Mustang MkII. The P-51B swapped out Allison for Packard licensed Merlin, which the British used as the Mustang MkIII. The bubble canopy P-51D is the Mustang MkIV.

Hope you guys can fix that error. Thanks for including it in the game, for whatever reason, the Allison Mustangs rarely get included. I don't understand why - at low altitudes they were lethal weapons, both faster and more maneuverable than the later models. They were also in service from 1942 to 1945.

The Allison Mustangs are never included because the most famous version of the Mustangs had bubble canopies and Merlin engines.

Same reason you don't see the P-38 in many of these games. Sure, they built more of it than any other Western fighter, but it wasn't as famous.

About the naming, in my opinion thats a pointless technicality that changes nothing. The aircraft is the same one whether they call it a P-51B or whatever else it is you want it to be called. (you didn't make that clear, to be honest)

Play IL2...couple of them in there. Only 10,000 build though. 1 or 2 more Spittys were built;)

Gah, my bad, meant the P-40 Warhawk. I used the Warhawk for an example because it had the same Allison engine that the early Mustangs did.
