In which order are the babies placed in the inventory slots?

I plan to get some children with my demon wife, just for kicks. ;)

But I fear they will start out as with my previous wifes, and take the upper left and the upper right slot first - basically, the precious weapon slots. :(

Is the placement random, or do the kids always get placed in that order?

Placement is random, ie. there is a 25% chance that your first baby will show up in any given slot. A bit of advice: most of the children are pretty crappy, and the good ones are not all that likely to show up. The vast majority of items are better than most of the children. Personally, I find it much better to just fill all your slots with items, since there is a 50% chance that the child will take up one or the other one Xeona's weapon slots (the Iforget/artifact slot is also indispensable for a warrior, since you only get one artifact slot naturally and artifact are the second best kind of item in the game, generally speaking. This raises the chance that the child will show up where you don't want it to 75%).

If you're planning to replace an early wife having children can be a decent way to get free artifacts though(since you probably won't have access to a lot of good ones in stores.) I went through 4 wives and got some good children with the first ones. Only sad thing is that the bonus for next child resets when you change wives.
