GTX 480 to GTX 780

Dear All,

I am about to upgrade my system (VC) from gtx 480 to gtx 780, and i would like to ask if anyone has try the new 780 - what performance he got (fps max settings or not max screen res. and etc.) It will work together with i5 2500K @ 3,3 - 4ghz! MB will be MSI Z77-GD55!

why dont you save some cash get a 770 and then get a haswell based chip and board

I am really nob. in the pc stuff, so thats why i try to look for a VC wich has the same bus widht 384 bit! 770 is also intresting if they give us 4gb of Vram! But still i need to know if i am going to have any perforance hit up or down! With my 480 at the moment i have all settings on max and v-sync and ssao - off (both). With 40-60+ players on the server i have avrg. fps of 20 - 30 over the land and 50 -60 over the sea! So if i can have stable 50-60 fps over the land with any of the newest vc i am going for it! Titan is bit too much for my pocket :(
ATI i have never used before (i am not green fan but .... physx is one thing wich i really like !!!)

also i see the you are running sli - how is it for you! cause if i am going for 770 in few months i will be able to get a second one to boost the system or is a just money for nothing?s

New MB is in the list as well but thats another story :) (MSI Z77-GD55 (or 65))

I have an EVGA GTX 780 with normal clocks and it runs CLoD Flawlessly online and OFF with all features set as high as possible on a 2560x1600 30" Dell monitor.. If you can afford it, then I highly recommend it.

in my opinion the 780 is overpriced, a 770 with a non reference cooler on can be overclocked to stock 780 level and it still will be a nice upgrade from your 480 my 670 was from my 480. the reason i suggested haswell was because the 1150 socket is now redundant and has no future upgrade route. if you run 1 monitor you dont need a 4gb card. sli has been no problem for me and performance wise i am quicker than a titan for half the price.

The GTX780 is based on GK110 GPU used in the Titan, the 770 is based on GK104 GPU used in the 680. So, the 770 is like an overclocked 680 and the 780 is more like an underclocked Titan.

I have an EVGA GTX780 Superclocked with ACX cooler for almost a month now and it rocks.

I got a 27 inch Dell 2713H monitor before Christmas and native resolution is 2560x1440. My two year old, dual chip GTX590 couldn't handle that resolutuin unless the game had perfect support for SLI.
This 780 I got beats the dual chip 590 in absolutely every game I play and in games like CLOD, that are so poorly optimized for SLI the performance gap is huge. CLOD was barely playable at my new resolution if I maxed out the settings.

Here's what my new card does in black death @2560x1440. All settings maxed out, SSAO and all:

Just out of curiosity I tried it at 1920x1080 since most people play at that resolution. Result:

My card, EVGA GTX780 Superclocked with ACX cooler, is factory overclocked and when I got it, about three weeks ago, it was the best 780 buy.
It's only ten bucks over the reference stock clocked card and it comes with an outstanding cooler, that let me add decent overclocking without heating up at all.

The clocks for the base model 780 are 863MHz Base Clock and 902MHz Boost Clock. The superclocked came set at 967MHz Base Clock and 1020MHz Boost Clock and I pushed it to 1228MHZ boost for benchmarking:

It won't play games at that clock, but i'm playing with it overclocked at 1201Mhz and it stays colder than my older 590 was at idle.:o

This is a great model and with only ten bucks over the base price, It's a no brainer.

While the 770 is a good card and theoretically you could get close to 780 performance the 780 overclocks just as good, so you'll always have a performance difference.

For example here's what I scored with mine overclocked to 1228Mhz boost and 200Mhz increase in memory speed:

In general you are right, but I wasn't too lucky with the SLI. There are no two games that implement SLI the same and you always have to choose settings based on how a certain game runs.
Then in most flight sims SLI is more headache than help, so I decided to get a single chip card and avoid the whole mess.

You're welcome. The most objective measure I have found is flying a Spitfire through the Tower bridge in the London sightseeing scenario. My rig runs between 27 and 33 FPS depending on head movement using trackIR. It looks very smooth... like a film. During gameplay, FPS is 50-60 with Vsync ON.

I have also settled on a stable overclock using EVGA Precision X hardware monitor software (Provided): Power target 106%; Temp Target 94c; GPU clock +200MHz; Mem clock +250MHz. Higher clock offsets will crash my video driver (With successful auto recovery each time).

The temperatures are very well controlled and the fan is quiet. 3DMark11 score 11989 with graphics score 14902. (25% increase over 2 Xfired HD 6970's)
