Some users report (http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?3528-Windows-platform-update-Don-t-get) problems with CLoD - freezes - after install this update (KB2670838 - 02/27) for Windows7/8, with some new instructions for DirectX 11.
Happened to me, uninstalled KB2670838 and testing CloD now.
Edit - No uninstall need, just atualize CloD DirectX drivers, from:
...\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover\redist\DirectX
Run DXSETUP.exe.
Done here and all OK now. ;)

You should always update your DirectX drivers on a regular basis with DXSETUP.exe.....:)....

This Windows Updade (KB2670838) dont cause problems in CLoD itself.
Cause problems with programs that use overlay like SeewtFX, FlightFX...
They are the culprid for freezes in CloD.
Users that dont use this programs report no issues after KB2670838 install.
KB2670838 maybee cause problems with TS notifier, Fraps - even with another games.
There's report of problem with Firefox fonts, MS IE printing...
On the other side I have the impression that colors in CloD are improved after
this update...

Roger that.
Since the Msft update earlier this week my system has crashed repeatedly. Running AMD 6800 dual GPS CrossfireX with 13.1 drivers so will complete the DXSETUP.exe and report back.
Almost like the bad ol days of the original release.

on that note Microsoft is aware that the dotnetfx and dx doesnt fix the issue with all,
and advise poeple that if they can't get it to work, to uninstall KB 2670838

That's what I resorted to, tried the dx and .net reinstall to no avail, uninstall, sorted.

unfortunatly nothing of the above worked for me! I get a launcher crash everytime! I even deinstalled every update until 14th of February!
Nothing seems to help!

Have you tried 'verifying' your install?
