I think certainly for now we'll use it for the campaign and then switch it to public play. If plans change we'll let people know.
Glad you enjoyed it :)

Hi, password for serwer?
Bounder!
02-02-2013, 11:48 PM
There isn't usually a password for the server unless the campaign is running. The Storm of War campaign is very popular and so the chaps who run it password protect it to make sure only those pilots registered can get in (about 75 slots at the mo). The multiplayer campaign runs saturday & sunday at 8pm GMT - any other time the server runs without a password.

AGC says switches to watchers when enemy is behind the CHL colocated with the CH. CHL was panoramic--rotatable antenna. After mid 1940, it also used a PPI to simplify operator interpretation. Either CH was meant, or the coast watchers don't become the "sole" source of info until the enemy is about 25 miles behind the CH/CHL station. There were mobile CHL as well, though I have no idea when. Both radars were "2-D," so height was always just an estimate. Great that someone has implemented this. I don't fly much (busy making stuff for legacy IL2), so I didn't catch whether AI voice is part of the deal. That would be the best.

I think you make perfectly valid points there Buster Dee however it can get to the point where the programming can become detrimental. We actually considered the tracking nature of CHL and decided to go with the static system because CHL operators swept and tracked targets which actually left gaps elsewhere. The mobile RDF was in use in the BOB and was used to plug gaps after the attacks on RDF sites during August.
It can be done but becomes unbelievably hard to actually test too, and each extra calculation adds load. We also looked into voice direction but the required vocabulary is missing from the sound files. We would need to record an entire sound pack and have people install it in order to gain commands from a controller vocally. The present announcements may seem ok, but they are from nearby aircraft, not Fighter Command
Presently the current system groups humans players flying in formations along with AI - no other system does this.

Thanks. Makes good sense. I don't really have a sense of what the watchers (and listeners) could accomplish; it may be that they were as effective as anything the CHL could have added to the mix (over land vice water of course).

Well there was certainly a fog of war as well as unbelievable accuracy. What we've found in use in campaign is that we also get this. Once a formation is smashed up the picture gets ever more inaccurate and interception becomes flaky. It really is fantastic at providing immersion :)

I wish I had more time to fly it. Sounds fun. Fact is, I fly like a brick with bent wheels slapped on. In my old IL2 squad, you could tell when the merge had occurred. I was already streaming something. I was flat out horrible. I may be one of the few Vpilots here who has also crashed a RL plane. Score:
I lost my glasses
Plane became coffee table conversation bits and part of 3 other planes.
I still have a hard time looking the owner in the eye.
