Hi,
I´ve got some real trouble with final fights. I don´t know how my level, original skills, items and spells influence 3 heroes which fights on my side, but it´s immposible for me to win with dwarfs. 5 of 6 units are useless and no serious spell available.
I already tried with Elfs and Vikings with no problem, but dwarfs sux hard (eg Enginner is dead before I even start the fight!).
Any hint or strategy? I play on Normal, original level 51, mage.
thx

Dwarfs are easy, they get the phantom spell - just phantom the strongest group (thats the 1000+ dwarfs) and repeat.
Oh yeah and lvl51 is pretty low - you should be 60+ by now without using experience scrolls just normal playing with medals and talents. Did you kill everything?

But there is no Phantom spell... and I´ve got only 600 Foremans.
Does my current level influence all those 3 heroes? I did not kill everyhing, I suppose it´s not necesarry and dwarf, elf and viking heroes should by on their own level no matter what... or not?

This is very strange. Could you send me your save game file? I wonder if they didn't balance it properly since I always play impossible and I found the last battle to be pretty easy to win (hard to no loss though).
You could almost go on pure auto battle and win.
However, one HUGE difference I can think of is your items carry over even if your original army does not.
So, I had nearly 100% critical chance hit, etc to help make it easier.
Perhaps you should equip items that give more physical resistance or even critical hit. (be careful, if your critical hit is too high and an ancient vampire is in human form, you just made him a lot harder to kill).
Also, you can learn spells during battle if you have enough crystals. They usually pack some "decent" spells.

I send you my saves, pls check PM...
I will be gratefull for any help. I´m getting sick of this game. So many bugs, technical issues and this unbalanced gameplay as well. I finished Legend and Armored Princess with no problem and it´s one of a best games I ever played, but this one pissing me off.
Anyway, thanks for your time ;-)

Hey friend, just beat it the first enemy for you using Dwarves.
EQUIP
I swapped your weapon with the Ray Of Light.
BATTLE
Open with opening spell book and learning helplessness. Max it to level 3.
Cast it on 15 bone dragon in round one, kill it with your foremen
Pull back formation a bit so they can't get to your engineers.
Stoneskin the foremen (it doesn't work on ghosts and he will teleport ghosts to your front line). Cast Geyser whenever otherwise.
Use rage skill to burn. Use flasks from engineer to blind skeleton archers.
You are going to take serious losses but in the end the foremen survive as long as they have stoneskin (he will try to dispel, just recast it and geyser again).
Of note, I thought this battle looked harder than impossible. It isn't. It's actually a LITTLE easier. (maybe 30-40% less enemy leadership?) You really underpowered your rage skills which makes this a lot harder than it should be. A high level Guirada rage (fiery rage) would do wonders in incinerating the bottle necked melee and also their ranged squads. The way it works, it does immense damage over time if it inflicts a 'burn'. I know you are a Soothsayer, but even then I had one better than 3 hex. (A high level one hits 18 hexes). This is probably because of your skill build.
Also your skill build is... interesting, but you never got nifty stuff like Berserker in the might tree, but you maxed out the attack stats. [shrugs] You would have been better off getting some "Anger" so you could have build a stronger Rage machine.
You seem to have no items, so I'm guessing you destroyed or skipped them. I fumbled to see if we could get some wicked attack/defense/crit chance but could not find anyway.
If you don't want the save/screenshots here, I can remove them, just let me know.
I think it could help others who are looking around and having trouble.

Man, I did it :-)
I completly forgot on Ray of Light, which I was save-keeping for undead battles. Funny is, I was using same tactics as you describe from the beginning, just Ray of Light done its job :-)
I destroyed all items for crystals and as for my skill build - I was interested only in mage skill tree, when all skills have been maxed out, I just upgrade random skills in other trees for which I had runes.
Thanks again, I though I will never beat this game. Tomorrow I will continue with other battles... yupi!

Congrats! I was curious how much of a difference it made. It makes a BIG difference! You can't one-shot the bone dragons in the first round without the ray of light.
However, I looked at this as a challenge... therefore, I beat the battle using whatever you had.
SEVERE losses, but victory was assured.

Well, it looks like I suck hard :-)
Anyway, I´ve got another problem - all my spells vanished before battle with Eric, only scrolls remains. Is this on purpose? I belive not, it would be pretty retarded since I´m mage, but one can´t be sure about this game...
I already try to fight battle before Eric again (I don´t remember name of that ugly green undead) with same result - all spells are gone!

Well, I barely survived with 200 droids and 130 foremen, and have been playing this game waay too long so (a lot of battle experience)... I wouldn't say you suck! I mean look at the round difference from just ONE single item! I had no idea it would make that big of a difference!
Yes, I expected that to happen because you only have 3 allies. You need 4 allies or else the game bugs out with your spellbook because there is a bug when you fight the last enemy yourself, the game "forgets" your original spellbook. I was meaning to test to see if that bug still exists in [previous build]/6250 build.
Are you on build 6250 and what build did you start your first saved game?
Two workarounds.
a) if you have a previous save game BEFORE you talked to the elf and engaged in the final battles we just did, go to Demonis and talk to Xenona or whoever. The demoness queen and get her to be your ally. OR, talk to selby if you didn't execute him. THEN talk to the elf and redo those battles again. Instead of fighting the 4th battle yourself, your new ally fights for you.
b) use the cheat codes to gain all the spells in the game and enough crystals to relearn all your spells.
To use cheat code type in console
~ (to get into console)
"magicbook" [enter]
"crystal 500" [enter]
That should be enough crystals. :)

I didn´t know that Xeona is also possible to persuade to asist in fight. Maybe after some years in next run, I will use her for my advantage :-)
Well, I finaly manage to finish the game - thanks to you. I would probably give up...
I used cheats to fill my spell book again.
Final fight with Guilford was too easy from my point of view. I found Giant spider battle or those cursed pre-final fights (with different armies) much more harder...
Thanks again ;-)

Yeah! It is actually a quest option!
You don't have multiple saved games to go back? You don't need to go back very far. I guess I'm the only weirdo here that has a saved game at
a) EVERY level up
b) every time I first land on a continent
c) every time I leave a continent
d) every time my shield of reknoss gives me a bone dragon (basically any key random event)
e) before a major decision / dialogue choice
f) before any allocation of runes or purchasing of major expensive items or units

I just wanted to finally finish this game and let it go. I will rather play again Legend or Armored Princess (+Crossroads) again then suffer here in WotN. So many bugs and technical issues...
btw, I don´t know if it is known, but when you cast Armagedon when you don´t have enough units to survive it, game crashes. But that was last bug from a thousand I encounter. Betatesters are probably to expensive for 1C Company...

Yeah I guess I know how you feel. :( I felt that way originally about this game. Beat the game as soon as possible my first play through.
Second time I was like "ok let's try Soothsayer".
Third time I'm like "wait, let me see if I can win with a strange army combination!". :)

For players sick of bugs/crashes in WotN, try out the Legend/HoMM3-babies mod (find it in tLegend/mods part of this forum) it will be refreshing after this torment.
