This question might as well be posted in KB TL, but here we are

Just curious, what spells you gents think are uber powerful and which ones completely useless? Also what combo are you overusing?

Fear is awesome, not against the dead obviously, on the side note they should be afraid of something, maybe holy water?

For combo, I love hypnosis and sacrifice, again not for dead.

Just some quick suggestions:
powerful: stoneskin, mana spring, gift, phantom, timeless (if working), poison cloud, blizzard (seriously, an opening of maxed lord of the north + poison cloud + blizzard is devastating, at least up to Demonis - can't speak for the rest yet)

Yes, I read that when I started playing previous installments, that was very helpful, well still is, that guide made me try no loss on impossible.

But I was hoping there might be some new discoveries and/or combos out there.

Hypnosis and Sacrifice still works?

I am doing a warrior so ... I don't know the spells yet. Can't wait to try it out as a Soothsayer!

Ancient Phoenix / Dragon of Chaos / Black Dragon ftw! :)

ice prison is one of the best spells there is! the enemy ai is too stupid to attack it's way out! so it's basically like another blind type spell option!

I got this early and use it every fight on the strongest low level enemy stack...well I did... until I got stoneskin+target+reddragon+scale set=near immunity to physical damage from the opposing army

Does Timeback exist in this game? I've not found it yet, but that spell is freaking GOD.

Magic Shackles has very specific and important uses. As does trap and slow (especially early game).

Target is very strong, as is Greasy Mist.

It does. Got it semi-early.

I'm a Viking/Warrior, so trap isn't that useful to me right now.

Target is good, but I never really used it, even in Armored Princess.

Greasy Mist / Oil Mist, ah I abused this a LOT since I used to run Level 5s and the Super Summon Mage team.

They're not being stupid, exactly. The description for ice prison implies the targeted unit can break its own shell by attacking it. That isn't true. I tried using Ice Prison as a pseudo-Glot's Armor and the unit lost its turn.

Yeah, later on when one has max the concentration and higher magic; fear and ice prison (well all buffs and debuffs) last sometimes more than 6 rounds and you can cast twice per turn.

I maxed my alchemy as well since I wanted to have all spells at highest level to test them out. Which reminds me I need to check it out the cost of crystals for upgrading the spells, for some reason I keep thinking the previous games were *cheaper*.

ah so the description is just another translation bug! thanks glad to know they're not stupid

No, but there is a talent that gives you up to 60% chance to use rage twice per turn.
Chaos Dragon, like most wanderer scrolls, is entirely a lucky find.

I love Blizzard for my Soothsayer, Sonic Boom is also fun (haven't found it yet this time)...
Haven't found a Geyser spell yet (found one on my Viking run...)
And no Stoneskin anywhere yet...
But i did get a Call Colossus from a battle chest while on the first few islands, so i had Trolls and Archdemons against the Spider...

Archdemons would be good if they could generate rage balls (broken now). :(

As a Soothsayer, I'd like to say: Blizzard, Blizzard, Blizzard.

Cast Blizzard first for 20 mana so you can cast it again for 40 mana. Hey, where did half the enemy horde go in round one? My only gripe is that it only ever seens to freeze one stack max. But I assume that was intentional with such a powerful spell. They should include that in the description though.

Another great combo I found with double cast is Pygmy + Plague to take down any tough stack. Double hp reduction is incredible, especially with high int.

They generate them just fine for me...

Hmmm state what starting game build and what current build and if you are using user mods or not?

Starting build 6246, current run 6249, zero user patches. My archdemons score kills, but no rage balls appear.

I suppose I could try to make a fresh start build 6249 to see if they show up there.

[edit]
Just retried a start game of 6249 with patch 6249. Demoness and Imp could not generate a rage ball. What happens is, they kill, and the rage ball animation begins, but no rage ball actually appears and they aren't healed either as intended.

I'm really curious what build you are using or start game you are using with patch 6249. Maybe the original? Or some user mod?

Agreed, though I sometimes cast another spell in place of the first blizzard, like a lv. 2 frost snake to decimate a dangerous stack (nearly guaranteed freeze on that one too).

I'm not entirely sure about the freeze mechanics of Blizzard. I seem to recall it freezing more than one stack but its not very likely.

Version 1.3.1, build 6246...
No mods...

Well that hardly counts. That isn't the latest version. It did work in that patch for me as well.

While build 6249 fixes quite a few quest issues (but STILL has a few broken ones so I gave up my last run), it adds a SLEW of new bugs as listed here.

Felt like 1 step forward and 2 steps back.
