For latest patch (1.11.20362 )

This is part 1 of a 2 part campaign (part2 is in beta testing atm)- and is based on the book "Spitfire on my tail" by Ulrich Steinhilper and Peter Osbourne. The campaign is designed to recreate the events and atmosphere of the book.
Part 1 is 32 missions long and starts with your arrival at at Coquelles on 1st Aug and runs through until the end of September
IT IS NOT a campaign where you will be in combat 5 minutes after take off, but will fly historical missions, some of which will not result in combat, particularly early on. There will be more than enough Spits to cope with later on though;)

In the early missions you will fly the 109E-1 and in September your unit will finally be equipped with the E-4 version as happened historically (unfortunately we can't have 'mixed' units).
For most of the missions you will fly as #3 in the Staffel

There are also large numbers of planes in some missions (over 160 !) and clouds are used heavily in a couple of missions so a fairly good rig is required and you may need to rethink graphics settings

FEATURES
As realistic as possible numbers of aircraft (ie lots :-P )

AAA positions are 'roughly historical'- the numbers and locations are approximately correct as far as i can get information on this. (if you have any spare ammo feel free to shoot them up)

Coquelles airfield is as near as i can get to the layout with the objects available.- just these 2 features mean there are ~ 2800 static objects on the map for every mission.

Skins are a reasonable approximation of the style of camoflage/ unit markings used by 3/JG 52. There is a change in skins at one point in the campaign. This is indicated in the briefings. The distinctive wing/tail tips are rather useful in identifying your own Staffel in/ after combat.
Skins are Capt Farrel, (butchered by me:evil:) and are included with his kind permission.

Route map and 'tactics board' for each mission, waypoint and timing information, weather information

I've tried to match units involved as best i could to historical records (if you have better info- let me know )

AI is 'tamed' as much as possible and there is variation in skill levels for individual a/c- watch out for the odd 'ace'!

Trains and vehicle convoys on both sides of the channel (nice targets, if you find one on the way home)

Vehicle movements around airfield and surrounding area

Clouds and wind modeled

Cloud free mission option

There is also a somewhat extensive readme with installation instructions, hints on how to get the most out of CoD

There is a readme with full(?) instructions on installing

First extract the .rar to a convenient place (then read the readme;)).

Then copy the folder " spitfire_on_my_tail-part1 " (without the quotation marks) to //.......SteamApps/common/il-2 sturmovic cliffs of dover/parts/bob/mission/campaign/
While you are in this folder you need to add these lines to the campaigns config file.....
the folder "Cloud Free' contains alternative missions (with no clouds) for those with lesser rigs. If you need to use these copy the mission files over those above- (I recomend at least trying the cloud version first)

The campaign installation tool should work also

copy the "Skins" folder to // Documents/1C SoftClub/il2 sturmovic cliffs of dover/Paintschemes

Very cool clouds on screenshots! http://s240.beta.photobucket.com/user/bolox00/media/cod/cloud4.jpg.html

Thanks for making a version with clouds. What video card is required to run them at about 35-45 fps in full HD?

Bolox- I am knee deep in the first version of this campaign-should I "re-load" this newest version to take its place?

Larry69- no probs- it's not the most intuitive of ways to have to install.

Ataros- I run with a GTX580 1.5gb @ 1920*1200 and clouds run fps at around 30 for me. Large(20+) bomber formations are a bigger problem, tho this seems to be a cpu problem more than gpu. I do give some suggestions for lowering settings in the readme (switching shadows and orig texture off can make the difference for me)
Part1 has clouds in some missions, part2 has alot more as weather changes with autumn. Let's just say the last mission will be 'fun':-P

Jamesdietz-things that are changed:
the changed fm's for some of the planes does alter the timings of some things so nearly every mission has been tweaked, a couple required a rethink/redo. Briefings timings have been updated too.

Cloud icing is alot more severe than with 1.07 so has been turned to minimum but even so I had to move/remove some. This was the biggest PITA with final release patch for me.

The 'success criteria' in the scripts has been redone.
So yes, just copy the new Spitfire onmmy tail folder over your existing one (steamapps one) and you should be able to carry on.

THX, Bolox,
so I fly my first campaign. I did the first 3 missions, not much yet.
First impression: very demanding, but interesting to fly in formation and checking your six for your "ingame surprises" at one time.
But once when the mission is done and all your squad mates got safly back to homebase, death has his terrible harvest because of the (stupid) AI tries to taxi into boxes which are allready occupied by static a/c, so they are destroying themself. Even when I follow your landing-order instructions, and everything went well, for some reasons there are losses that are mentioned in the debriefing (but this happens in singleplayer-missions as well).
Anyway, I like it and I will go on.

yeah the way game engine destroys landed planes then counts them as 'shot down' is 'more than slightly annoying'.

One goal I have for further scripting is to "keep score" in a way that gets round this but that might take a while:rolleyes:
For now we just have to turn a 'Nelsonian Eye' to some of the problems and enjoy the good bits

This is designed to be demanding but the story allows it to be 'fairly' enemy free for the early missions, hopefully this fives some 'training time' without being too boring.

Glad you are enjoying it:grin:

Bolox, thx for putting in the time and effort to do this. Makes flying offline a lot more fun.

+1

You hav done a good job to turn a book where he spends most of the war NOT in combat...sitting around his airfield playing with his radios, then getting shot down over UK...into a good campaign I am enjoying!

Thanks
