IL2 Cliffs of Dover 72 JU88 Bombers vs 6 Spitfire IIa
Quick and dirty mission to see how many AI aircraft my system can handle...
This was a few too many! ;) Probably somewhere between 50-60 would have been optimal as 36 bombers was still running @ 30+FPS!

It was still fun to do and to watch though! I wasnt flying, I was just on Autopilot so I could flick around the views.

I tried the latest beta but the last official patch has all the effects still turned on which is more fun to watch!

I hope in the future the dev team work out how to split AI across multiple cores/threads as I can see AI are currently only using 1 core... flat out at about 90% mind you, while the other cores were 5-20%.. Even if its just enemy AI on one core and Allies on another!

It'll be finished uploading soon. :)

You have quite the meaty system what with the 4way SLI, I am very jealous. Hopefully when they fix SLI you will be able to play this mission better.

Its not the GPU thats holding it back, its the AI CPU calculations and they appear to be limited to 1 core.
Hopefully when other more important gameplay issues are resolved they will work on splitting AI load across more cores.

I hope so because I do not see the CPU increasing in power much more seeing as that is a newish i7.

Nice! Love see large numbers in the air, and I to hope they get the AI calculations over multiple cores.. I mean we do need to reenact the 1000 Bomber Raids soon :D

Are you uploading the mission? I need to get back to messing with the FMB again...

You bring up big point. Better utilisation of todays and future hardware. You've got enough hardware to guide an unmanned mission to mars. The program uses less than 20% of it. At this pace it'll take another 10 years for the game to run smooth with all the potential bells and whistles enabled.

I run a I5-2500K @4.3ghz and SLI gtx 680 and the program runs pretty smooth at high settings on a 30 inch 2560x1600 monitor. I'm also using a surround setup and could really use the multicore/sli optimisation. The hardware's here, lets use it.

Well, I don't know what to say.. I've made a mission with an obscene number of stukas and flak sometime in the months after the release (I still think I have it somewhere on my HDD), and it was working fine for me. large number of aircrafts always worked fine for me on my system (and the only thing I've changed in it was upgrading from a 560 Ti SOC to a 680 OC, both gigabyte).

It depends on the aircraft type.
I just did a couple of runs of the same mission and changed the bombers to JU87s and another as HE 111 and the FPS was much higher.

JU88 12-20FPS
JU87 25-40FPS
HE111 21-30FPS

Same number of aircraft just different model.
Maybe there is an AI bug in the JU88 eating up CPU cycles? I know someone has mentioned something like this before with FPS dropping whenever around JU88s.

it might be the case.. the model doesn't seem to be much more detailed than the Ju87 or He111 ones.. maybe it has a little bit more alpha?

yet.. there was a mission, again sometime back then after the launch of the game, with a huge number of Ju88s in a single raid, mixed with some 110s too.. and again I remember flying that mission without any kind of problem..
