I was viewing some "old" CoD video clips yesterday and I was reminded how great this sim truly IS (already) ... and it gave me great hopes about its future.
I looked as those truly great clips (in my opinion): -
- by Barfly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgoQyk8bKFA (the Day before Adlertag); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_htwfzAgX_Q (Battle of Britain Day, The Blitz); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9KLw8rMY7s (Battle of Britain, The Kanalkampf)
- by Ph0b0s95 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tugifv2YIw8&list=PLD8ACAB8FF938F495&index=1&feature=plcp (North Afica); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6-FOVQxwOo&list=PLD8ACAB8FF938F495&index=4&feature=plcp (War Cry); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LMftuei6Fw&list=PLD8ACAB8FF938F495&index=5&feature=plcp (Pulse)
- by Biltongbru (my friend and compatriot!!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjZ8kwQr1so&list=PL73133DEB7583CCD8&index=2&feature=plpp_video (Vickers Wellington bomber); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o74Z4TwavFs&list=PL73133DEB7583CCD8&index=4&feature=plpp_video (Dornier Do 17 bomber); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJa7uLfbW-c&list=PL73133DEB7583CCD8&index=5&feature=plpp_video (Boulton Paul Defiant); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t84dVdKuVDc&list=PL73133DEB7583CCD8&index=7&feature=plpp_video (Spitfire, Messerschmitt Dogfight)
- others (like Jafa, BinaryOrchestra, dalsgaard etc)
Have a re-watch of these - although most have had effects added, the basic flight sim is breathtakingly good!

Here, another way to look at how good this game is. Look at how good and interactive you can make the missions. Soon to be released on Atag server. If u are online 7pm Australia Melbourne time then you can play on local server for testing

What did they do so wrong as to make many of us forget how good this sim is?
What is the atmosphere they have created around this sim that the whole thing seems porked when it is not?
The lack of a realistic horizon or deadline to get what 1C and Oleg Maddox made us dream of?
Looks good, but if you value function over form.there are better options out there.

In my view, nothing at all. In my view the community itself is responsible for the current 'negative vibe'.
The community demanded patches to resolve various issues, the developers released two 'alpha/beta' patches to test, which the community members who post on this forum and elsewhere have seemed to regard as official releases. They aren't.
The game/sim which produced those videos in the OP's post is still there.
Just roll back to the last official version and start making movies. :)

Looking for bugs to spam this thread ?
That bug was fixed time ago, somewhere in 2011, that makes me wonder even if you have the game.
Did they fix the bit were he slides though the trees?

The community demanded patches to resolve various issues, the developers released two 'alpha/beta' patches to test, which the community members who post on this forum and elsewhere have seemed to regard as official releases. They aren't.
In that case, the last update which was supposed to fix issues is 9 months old, so the devs didn't fix anything in 9 months, if we ignore the alpha/beta patches.
That would probably look worse than considering the latest alpha and beta patches as "official" (are they even unofficial?) releases.
This sim is good and probably even worth its money (i think i bought it for 25 EUR or so). Posting screenshots and videos (specially recorded, because they wouldn't look smooth if you would record them in real time) of it and then saying it's great is kind of like wearing very pink glasses here, because that doesn't mean that the sim IS great. It just looks great, aslong as you visit forums and watch screenshots and videos. But as soon as you boot it up, it's not great anymore.
I'm convinced that this sim will be great in a few months or years, but it certainly has not reached that level yet.

COD is the best unfinished sim I've ever played. ;). You have too expect a number of features, and optimizations not to work with an unfinished sim. Atleast the devs are still working and the beancounters are still supporting the sim. That said their days must be numbered unless something good happens soon with the code optimizations.

Really, Dutch? I do respect you and most of the posters in this forum, but, please, do me a tiny favour: step out the melée, walk away for a few seconds just to get a good perspective, look around and back in time and tell me, from that privileged point of view: who did start the fire?.
From my heart and for what I have realised till now, the very initial match wasn't ignited on the 'payers' side. Was it?

I agree to some extent, but the unfinished release was the only way we were going to see a finished release. Most of the venom on the forums are from people who have a hard time with this, not to mention how long its taking to get finished. Unfortunately patience in todays generations is not our strong suit. I think our investment convinced the beancounters to keep spending major dollars to finish the development, so there is still a chance.
Thanks for posting this video collection!
I already knew all of them but it is a nice reminder about the great video skills that some people in the COD community have.
And btw, you forgot another great video: Wings of Affliction (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OX0B91RaQ0&feature=related)

This video is for sure a nice reminder about the great video skills that some people in the COD community have, but it's definitely NOT a reminder about how great this sim is. Produced nearly 1 year after the release the videos shows all the conspicuous technical problems IL2 CloD still suffers.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your efforts and sharing DUI !!

Honestly it was quite difficult to get realistic shots for that movie without having bugs in the scene. There is alot of post processing on those scenes in order to make it look better aswell.

I know and that is exactly what I mean. This video is just awesome, but unfortunately it is not the truth about this "great sim". Apart from the stutters IL2 Cliffs of Dover is far away from this and it still breaks my heart to see what should be possible. :(

Yes…great for generating pics and vids. But playing the thing, especially in SP is another story. CloD is like a beautiful concept car. Looks amazing as it turns on its platform but take it for a ride you quickly find that under the skin it’s a cobbled together mess. CloD may get there eventually but at this pace the dev team may go bust before it happens.

And another good video:
A New Day (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Y47H8pFMDE&feature=g-all-u)
Obvioulsy CloD still has quite a bit of a path to travel, but it is getting there - slowly and surely.

Mungee,
Wish I could take credit however I only done a bit of the flying monkey work - the true moviemaker and idea guy was Marmusman who deserves the credit for this masterpiece!
