View Full Version : How about a community truce?

I just read up on a certain infamous recently locked thread and while it started out constructively and interesting it still managed to go down the usual feces slinging contest. Now, I can see where "both sides" are coming from but are any of these "dialogs" really making our community seem like a friendly and constructive place? It's not a very inviting atmosphere for people that may actually be on the verge of getting an interest in the genre, is it? When you are arguing about stuff like "exactly how many days are a few days" or "I didn't say that, you did!" then you know people are FRUSTRATED. Not only the people that are criticizing or complaining about the game but also the people that feel the need to start pointless arguments with them.
Arguing about FM's, DM's or other sim related stuff is common on boards like this, usually in a civil manner. Arguing over who said what or who is entitled to which opinion is just wrong, I urge everybody to rise above yourselves and channel your frustrations in other real-world activities or in trying to help any newcomers to the game instead of destroying thread after thread after thread. People are calling each other immature or question their reading abilities, really? Maybe someone is unemployed or retired, maybe someone is on sick-leave or something when they find the time to spend all their time on a message board. If that's your case, make your posts count, don't waste your time on petty arguments that never leads to anything except resentment from others, after all, we are all here for the same reason aren't we? the passion for combat sims and sims in general.

Agreed there needs to be a truce.
We have to accept that there are 'fanboys and 'detracters' who will disagree that the sun rises in the east and will argue/flame/troll over the smallest point.
I have also accepted that there are 4 or 5 of the former and latter who would sell their family in defence/critism of this game so I decided to use the 'ignore' function, saves so much time.
As MACADEMIC said though (before his post was removed), the original MP thread was so clumsily censored over what was originally a very well though out and argued topic it defies belief.

Its a nice idea but it would never work...
You wont stop people coming here moaning and or speaking about their disapointment in the game and its that that causes the thread to be jumped on and the game defended to the hilt by the usual suspects...
Nice thought though

That's the real shame about this place, very 'Orwellian' in it's stance at times

Well, I will accept the truce if all the fanboys acknowledge a total defeat! I am afraid there is no other way around this :o

Problem is that it's posts like this (as innocuous as it is) that cause a reaction and flame war (and before it's said I am anything but a fanboy)

I propose a sub forum for certain topics where you can battle it out till your hearts content with a warning in the heading so you know what to expect when visiting..
And instead of warning and closing threads just ban the culprits if it spills over to other threads.. pretty simple..
Tiring how EVERY thread turns out the same, the devs always wait til it's erupted before acting imo, warning signs were probably 3 pages prior..
If you ignore the rules and post in the civil section then your get a warning and thread closed straight away, if the 'defenders' take a cheap shot before its noticed then they get banned/warning
Easy as pie

Maybe it just plain isn't.
Could be that simple actually.
This will never be what Frugals was of course but maybe what it was in the bitter end with big ego's slapping eachother convinced they could make their "opponent" have the same opinion as theirs (wait, aren't we there already?).

I think it's sad that we have to sit in here arguing instead of talking about how great the game is, I think once we all stop being beta testers then things will improve. I just think many people are annoyed because they didn't buy into testing a game they bought into it to play it.

There we go..
And if thats not bait for the 'usual suspects' i don't know what is...
This is why my first post here is my honest opinion..

I've simply put the worst 4 ...forum members... (aka "The Usual Suspects") on ignore (haven't done this before on ANY forum I've ever visited) and since then find the forum FAR less tiring.

Seriously! You think that is bait?
I am utterly fed up with the usual suspects on both sides, the only way to stop the usual load of rubbish is an outright ban on these individuals.
They have caused enough trouble already!

This. But then the application of any penalty should be applied fairly to each side, irrespective of viewpoint. It seems to me, perhaps incorrectly, that one side of the coin is always treated less harshly than the other.

Original thread is temporarily gone for a clean up, as I don't currently have the time to trawl through 20 odd pages of O/T immature arguments.
When its cleaned up it will be back. A perfectly well written post ruined by the usual few people who only seem to come to the forum for an argument.
Thanks for your support though. ;)
