Hi all,
During the very dark/ late night time missions on ATAG last night, I noticed that a little portion of sky beneath my console window was not dark at all.
I resized the window to cover my entire screen and was able to make out landscape, and objects quite clearly.
I believe that this exploit is undetectable to other players/ the server and it gave me a significant advantage in terms of being able to see both where I was and where enemies might be - while everyone else was foundering in the dark. (I did not engage anybody when I had the window resized like this)
Can I request that mission builders do NOT allow missions to run into the hours of darkness, until the exploit is fixed?
Thanks.

Wow! Good pickup on that one.
Have you put it on bugtracker?
Cheers!

I've not added it to bug tracker....

So, its not a cheat/exploit, its a bug. Thread title edit for clarity. Add it to the bug tracker please.

Hmm strange.
However, I believe that night-time flying isn't all too important for us BoB simmers, for now - until the server admins are given the tools to create Luftwaffe bomber missions on London, of course :)

I think the tools exist already. If memory serves me right, Desastersoft is working on a He111 campaign for night bombing with radio navigation.
The problem would be server population. If there was a bit of moonlight to help navigating, i would have no problem whatsoever flying Blenheims or 111/88 at night and trying to bomb targets in a shorter mission (let's say, only 2 targets and a reduced mission duration, between the other server missions). It sounds like a real challenge and i would have a blast trying to fly with stopwatch and compass, then try to deduce the target location from the positioning of the searchlights and AA around it (my flight simming dream is to fly a Pathfinder mosquito in a sim that features the night bombing campaign at some point )
However, the majority of people fly fighters almost exclusively and a night scenario where flying bombers is almost mandatory (since you can't really intercept bombers why burn fuel flying in circles? get in a bomber as well) would result in an empty server very quickly.

Wilde Sau ! Grouick Grouik ;)
Night Flying is really enjoyable. I don't know if the arly morning map in ATAG is still there (the one that you have to bomb convoy at early morning lights), but it was one of the most enjoyable for me.

No.

lol ok, maybe someone else will do it for you if they encounter the same bug.

wow, although I prefer flying with the RAF, I'm looking forward to that Desastersoft campaign!
And pathfinder Mosquitoes... yeah, that would be very awesome! :)
Deeply penetrating German airspace in your fast twin-engine plane and dropping "christmas trees" in order to mark the bomber targets sounds like major fun :)
Oh, and about the need to hop into a bomber when night is approaching: I suppose the RAF didn't have a "Wilde Sau" concept in 1940, did they?

We could always jump in some Hurricanes ;)
Most people are familiar with the Defiant in the NF role, but i have a faint memory of reading about Hurricanes being used for the same thing.
Since fighters usually didn't have the navigation equipment to be of much use at night, the defending side could put up some flights of their own and guide them through ground control while the attacked couldn't (friendly radars and radios work best over your own territory).
This creates a situation where the defender is the only one who can reliably send up fighters, so it's ok to not use your best aircraft. You don't risk losing Spitfires through accidents at night but you can risk some Hurricanes and Defiants, especially since there won't be any 109s around to give them trouble.
I think the same thing also happened when the RAF started their night attacks and before radar-equipped night fighters became widespread, the LW could vector 110s with GCI and not have to worry about enemy fighters chasing them down.
Would be interesting for sure to fly something like this
