View Full Version : 50 fpsec but video not smooth (new "texture tile lag" shudder, or "macro freeze" ?))

fpsec have improved significantly since the patch for me, and after tweaking the rest of my pc (ide drivers, video drivers etc) i now get around 50 fpsec during flight most of the time (45 fpsec taxing on the ground, and some similar drop of fpsec over highly buildup area's)

this is good news, with the previous +/- 25 fpsec on medium settings before the patch the game wasnt really playable on my poor little i5 dualcore @ 3.5 with 8 gb ram and ati 5770 (1 gb), win 7 64 bit etc..

but oddly, even at 50 fpsec the video is not perfectly smooth now, there is a new type of stutter/shudder/macro-freeze problem still happening that is different from the microfreezes that affected CoD prior to the patch.
- while i am stationary on the ground and watch aircraft/vehicles move around me, no problems
- once i start my takeoff run and start gaining altitude the problem becomes perceptible: the scenery is just not moving smoothly past my field of vision, it does move smoothly for a few sec (depending what direction i look, it is most severe when looking sideways out of the cockpit, not so obvious looking straight ahead) but then it is as if the scenery tile i was looking at lags a little and then zips past at the last sec in an accelerated manner while the next tile enters the field of vision, it is not a 100% smooth transition looking/viewing the landscape
- the problem is not apparent when closing in on aircraft while there is a sky background, or when over the sea/water.

anybody else experiencing anything similar, or have any suggestions on what settings to check/alter ?

looking at pc resources in use, cpu load is very low amongst the 2 cores and 4 threads, but about 7 of the 8 gb of ram is in use. i am still using medium settings for tree's and building density (as i was prior to the latest beta patch), no shadows, but most of the other options turned up.

the microfreezes that were so obvious before the patch seem to be gone, but now there is this new "non-smooth" video macro-stutter. not sure if its a new bug, modified old micro-freeze bug, or something in my settings :)

Sorry to ask, but did you install the hotfix also? just the core.dll? sounds like you have the problems evryone had before the hotfix.

yeah, ive reported and open a thread on it too a month or so ago... its really weird cuz planes fly smooth over the laggy ground.

it seems to be known issue according to alfa patch release notes, so im not worried about it till the patch goes live.

thanks for some of the quick replies already :)

i did install the hotfix to, will check if it installed correctly and might redo it

do any settings other then grass affect this ? will play around with the grass settings and see if i can reduce it somewhat

according to patch notes this stutters should cease with trees and grass set to off, since luthier say these are the culprits.

Zapatista, What you are seeing is what has existed since release of CLOD. 60 Frames at all times should be ones target to ensure the "smoothest" visuals given the efficiency of the programming code as well as ones equipment including inherent limitations in typical 60 HMZ LCD's. But this 60 is not consistently achievable even with the original cleanest release of code.

If you watched a program running on LCD at 60 FPS vs one at 50, 40, 30 each step would show a very noticeable reduction in smoothness at each step.

This is precisely why many of us stuck to the original release version as all subsequent test patches, alphas, injections etc only made the FPS drop and introduced more stuttering which really interfered with Smoothness... Multiplayer Dogfrights and enjoyment levels as well as.

But I do suggest that even with a Quad Core at
3.5 GHZ and a 570 the only one that was smoothest was the original released version. There are more components to Smoothness than just FPS but FPS is typically the most significant ( given effective programming code and equipment ) and FPS is the easiest to benchmark.

If I recall there may be a MAXFPS option in one of the ini's. If there is you can see it for yourself by reducing MAXFPS or whatever it is called.

Good Luck Sir
