I don't know for sure, but I think you're coming up just a bit short to play CLOD unless you run at low resolutions, and use LN2 to help overclock that CPU. Otherwise you're gonna get stutters real bad at high altitude over Coventry! ;)

Better try it on the Back Death trk to be sure! :D

Just don't let her fly CLOD on it or you'll never get it back! If you have to build yourself another gaming system I have an unregistered copy of WinME laying around here somewhere I can let you have cheap. :)
seriously, you are set to rock with that system. The only thing I'd do different is put it in my house! LOL!!

Hey there. I am interested in seeing your temperatures when it comes to the cpu. I`ve heard the new i7/i5 is quite warm? Idle/stress? Also, if you OCed it and what cooling you use.

Cooling wil be CORSAIR Cooling Hydro Series H100

no overcloking until i have a decent water-cooling setup

The core i7 3930k is a Sandy Bridge-e chip and a socket 2011.

The new Ivy Bridge chips are socket 1155 and are the ones that get hot when upping the voltage for overclocking.

Hi Friedric

Your new rig looks killer :)

I put together something very similar the other week, typing on it just now, went for the slightly faster I7 3960 E and also the Asus Rampage Extreme IV clocked to 4.6GHz, its mainly for FSX as this sim will use all six cores but CLOD flys on it too, this system is much quicker than my previous I7 2600K overclocked slightly higher ... I even have the same soundcard (Asus Xonar STX) as you, running a GTX 680 though, running a Corsair H100 for cooling too.

Enjoy.

Cheers mate, I see you went socket 2011 six core too, was thinking about going for Ivy Bridge, but no six cores until at least a possible E version late/early next year, also they heat up a bit too much for my liking, glad I made this move to socket 2011 Sandy Bridge-E now.

Enjoy.

i heared above a problem with the low quality thermal paste between the micro and the cooler fan sold by intel but i m not sure. You should perhaps investigate on this side before changing your point of view.

S!

Only thing keeping me away from 2011 socket is the damn price :( Here you have to sell your organs, rob a bank and mug some bypassers for money to get one :( ;) So have to settle with 2500K which is a great piece of hardware for it's price :) Nice rigs you got there! Katana, how about that sound card..I have been watching on one like that, but not sure if I get improvement over onboard in gaming. Any impressions you got?

Nice rigs you got there! Katana, how about that sound card..I have been watching on one like that, but not sure if I get improvement over onboard in gaming. Any impressions you got?

Some dont worry about using on board sound these days, and on modern motherboards its pretty good I must admit, but because of the nature of onboard it will use some CPU cycles, on a fast modern processor you will only lose 1 or 2 FPS at most if that though ... but there are other reasons to use a good quality dedicated sound card, the Asus Xonar STX for example has its own amplifier so that using headphones it has enough juice to supply the best of headphones or headsets, it also does its own sound processing and leaves the CPU cores for other work, the sound quality is unbelievably good, you need to hear it on good headphones or speakers to fully appreciate it, this is actually my second Asus Xonar card, have PCI-e D2X in my second PC, but this STX sounds much better, I wont be going back to Creative Labs cards any more :)

@Katana: Good statements cocerning soundcards and I have the same, but one point to add:

They do some kind of own sound processing but since you have a lack of sound hardware support in win7 (or was it the api's in newer directx versions?) u have no full support anymore. This step backwards in sound on a pc causes, that our cards cannot fully do their desired jobs. That is why creative got massive problems with microsoft (they implement the sound generating methods from xbox), you are far away from the eax future plans, which sounded great.

I am not that aware of that topic, but it makes me angry to get no full hardware support for my soundcards anymore. Clearly poor in my opinion, that the idea of eax died with these changes of microsoft and that the sound fell back into "medieval" drastically said.
:)

Good points, I miss EAX in Win 7.
