View Full Version : What would give me the best performance increase?

I am toying with the idea of either getting a second GF 580 GTX With 3 Gig of Vram or replacing the existing 580 with a 680.

Does anyone have an opinion on whether 2x580 GTX in SLI would out perform a single 680?

I have a very high resolution 2560x1440 and the single 580 isn't quite enough to satisfy my inner geek and give me the FPS I want.

Cheers

Two 570GTX here,

I play in single 570GTX because in sli mode have 50% more fps but the game is NOT SMOOTH (there is a very strage kind of long stuttering which I can not explain in writting - it is just not smooth gameplay).

Ofcourse the new patch will fix all that... in xx weeks (add the number of your liking) ;)

Oh, I would not buy a card with onl 2Gb VRAM (which is the 680GTX)

So if I were you, I would wait until September for the real performance card of NV.

Thanks Granthos

Partly I want to be able to run a third screen for work so a second 580GTX would be good but I read somewhere that the 680 can run up to 4 monitors.

I think you're right about the VRAM though, my 580 has 3 gig and another one of those would be nice as I am sure the 2560x1440 resolution I use benefits from this.

I use MATROX TrippleHead2Go for the past seven years (lost counting).

Never had problems, always had three monitors connected ;)

Always SLI.

Until, thanks to CoD :( I had to run the game in single mode.

Then I realised (removing the second GPU) that I can have three monitors, 3840x resolution on a single 570GTX 1,3Gb :D

So, my advice would be:
#1 MATROX TrippleHead2Go
#2 If it is for CoD, do not bother (yet), three monitor view like IL2 does not work

What resolution are you running it at and what average fps do you get over land?

Roy, I would love to see a screen shot (with fps)of a Ju88 parked with the engines running and look at the engine when you take it:grin:

Buildings and trees in the back ground for fun!

1920x1080 and fps on ground in hangar is around 50-60 . over land i get around 70-80 .

I was not the one who posted that pic, I just quoted it.I was asking the one who posted it about his fps over land.

only thing i have to add is 2x 3GB videocards does not equal 6GB of vram... the 2nd videocards memory doesn't get added. so 2x 3GB videocards equals 3GB of vram, likewise, if you get a 3GB and a 2GB videocard, doesn't matter what one you have as primary, running in SLI, you will only get 2GB vram...

If you really want a good upgrade of your 580, you should wait for the new nvidia cards and do not buy an expensive alternative like 680 or 7970 (which I would prefer due to its higher vram). You should wait for a kepler with 3gb and upwards.

I think, if you are really willing to go the high end way, you will be disappointed by the current high end, when the new cards are coming. They will crush the current high end and in nvidias case, they will hopefully implement the recommended 3 gigs vram or more.

Take the summertime to go out and stick some more months with your good old 580. This would be my advice. :)

S!

For me so far the best performance boost was getting a SSD. Sure system is adequate otherwise too but SSD really helped. Today upgraded CPU..Testing is pending.

How do you get frame rates on screen?

S!

Same way as in old IL-2, press Shift + Tab and type >fps START SHOW then press Enter. Close Console by pressing Shift + Tab again. If Shift + Tab does not work then map it in Controls to that or whatever you like.

Shift+Tab opens up the Stream menu for me....where is FPS located in Controls? Found it...and edited it ....works 4.0.
