This is horrible. I have direct x 11 on my win7 system.. Microsoft won't let you downgrade to dx10!!! I've been trying every trick in the book to get COD to run... Cache clearning/verifying etc. Please update the Beta thread with the links to the update and make it clear it won't run if you have dx11.

Does anyone think there's a way to somehow manually remove dx11 files and install dx10?

No the patch is fine for DX11, if you have DX11 hardware you can run anything, it's only people with DX9 that can't use it, your problem must be something other than a DX11 issue.

There's no need to worry, the fact about being DX10 only affects Win XP users or people with cards that do not have DX10+ capabilities. Windows Vista/7 will run all DX11/10/9 applications, as long as you have compatible hardware of course.

Edit: I missed that you are having issues getting COD to run, are you getting an error popup? Is it just not opening and nothing happens?

it just won't open. I reinstalled steam and COD... opened fine. extracted patch to main COD directory... Now it won't launch when i click play.

ugh, this sucks so bad. I tried everything i can think of (cache stuff, nivida settings, turned hyperthreading back on). I was hoping i could play the new patch all day sunday... unfortunately sunday is nearing it's end :(

Hmm... The first thing I would try is to make a backup of your "1C SoftClub" folder in your Documents folder, and then turn off the steam cloud (right click on IL-2 in your Steam library -> Properties -> Updates -> uncheck Enable Steam Cloud) just for troubleshooting purposes. Then delete your conf.ini (or the whole 1C SoftClub folder if you would prefer to have everything 'fresh' just to try to get the game running, just absolutely make sure you have your backup somewhere safe!) inside your 1C SoftClub folder. Also, when you copied over the patch files did you make sure that everything got properly overwritten?

Yup, i extracted the patch to the root directory. tried the 1c softclub thing, didnt work. I noticed that after i apply the patch, verify the cache integrity, it'll say 31 files are junk and redownloads them. obviously doesnt help to open the game though.

But if you're verifying the cache AFTER installing the patch, Steam will be overwriting the patch files with the current release version won't it?

i had the similar issue at the very beginning right after applying the patch

i deleted everything inside /cache/ folder and also conf.ini file and the sim started normally,

those are located in:

..\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\

after some experimentation , i have noticed the sim won't launch when i try to set all graphics settings to max with SSAO and VSYNC to 'on' - i thought with the 680GTX i could afford that, but apparently not.

right now i have it running 'fine' - sort of, using the default preset setting "HIGH" but without ssao and vsync

since i deleted the 1csoftclub folder, COD won't even open up to make a new one. i figured that verifying the cache is a bad thing after updating, so i reinstalled the patch again afterwards to get the new cache files back in there. nothing really works.

i suppose i could do another fresh install, and set the video settings to low or something and then update. ugh

must be something you did wrong than, works fine for me and im win7 ult 64bit
u sure you installed the patch correctly? if you don't get a red box on start up it means you did something wrong. did you perhaps put the two folders in your 1C folder in your documents instead of in the steamapps folder under your steam folder in the program files? its got nothing to do with DX if your running 11 which everyone is unless your using XP which your not obviously. than DX isnt your issue, perhaps if you installed the patch right are you using any beta drivers for your graphics card that might be causing an issue? I rememberd I had to uninstall the 310.xx graphics drivers for my GTX460, despite working in CoD it kept on freezing up my Shogun 2 fall of the samurai.
so idk if you any of these are your issue or not. but my advice if it still doesn't continue to work, is to just re-install the game, get the patch, and extract it to the right folders, delete your cache and start the game and it should work fine, if you see a Red square at start up it means you did it right.

I have the same problem as the OP. Tried everything and it will not start. So far i dont even know what the game looks like after the patch. :(

If i check integrity after failed try and the game reverts back to latest official patch everything works fine.

Make sure you delete your cache folder before you extract the patch.

Trust me, iv tried everything, twice. Including doing a fresh install of the entire game, witch btw takes forever on Steam. :(

You name it, i did it, catch folder, turning of firewall, fresh install, downloading patch from 3 differant sources, callibrated my monitor, made a fresh pot of coffe, noting works.

No worries though, either it works all of a sudden or i just have to wait for the officiall version.

Last tip iv found was to lower the settings from high to medium or low (no i havent forgotten to set the same res in the orginal game as my monitors naitive res) on the fresh install before patch since that, apparently, can make it go belly up. Should probbably make sure to feed the cat before patch, just in case. :)

After I installed the patch it crashed on me 3 times before I could even join a multiplayer game, but then on the 4th try it just sort of magically worked.

Make sure you try to launch it a couple of times before changing something.

OP I think you're misunderstanding what DirectX is...

The patch being incompatible with DX9 just means it won't work for video cards that can only run DX9...

DirectX is an application programming interface that, in simplest terms, tells your hardware what to do when displaying images. The software you download on your computer when something requires DirectX will always be the most recent version, in this case DX11, but your hardware will only run at its maximum capable.

If you have a dated video card, like a GeForce 8600, you're stuck at DX9, a GTX 250 can run DX10 and DX9, a GTX 580 can run DX9, DX10, DX11 applications.

Cliffs of Dover has utilized DX10 for its best graphic settings and features, but to keep their audience wide as possible they've included a "DX9 mode" for people that don't have advanced video cards. This "DX9 mode" is automatically applied for people that cannot run the DX10 features...in this alpha patch that you're trying to run, DX9 is disabled, therefore anyone that cannot run the game in DX10 will not be able to run it, no matter what they do, except get a newer video card.

Revert back to the current version of CloD that is on steam if you wish to play the game right now. You can do this easily and quickly by right clicking Cliffs of Dover in your steam library>properties>somewhere in there is a "verify local game files" that will revert the patch.

I had this same problem (CoD started, but always crashed before showing main menu).
I deleted conf.ini and then the crash was gone. Thanks for the tip!

Also try editing conf.ini to launch the game in windowed mode (fullscreen=0 and lower resolution). Start game, change back to fullscreen mode via game menu, restart game.

i got it to work. this is what i did:

Fresh install, ran game and set settings to low. Patched, THEN, deleted shaders in 1c Softclub folder in my documents before running...I didn't mess with the other cache.

But, I'm getting wierd graphical bugs... Textures with whacked out color scheme's.

how did you extract the patch????
i ask this, because the devs never mentioned how to do correctly, and after the release and the first patch, i was trying to extract the patch with winzip i think, and it didnt work.the game didnt even start anymore.
i have seen such posts with every upcoming patch, and i think it is because some guys are using winzip or other programs which are not capable of extracting those files correctly...try it with 7zip, never had a problem with using this program to extract patches into clod...

ps: ok didnt see your last post, so the above is redundant....for your current problems with colour and textures, look if you have disabled anti epilepsy filter.

Hi.

I have a weird problem!:!: After installing the beta patch I can launch the came ok, red sguare at the beginning of the launch. I can join multiplayer servers ok, but when I spawn on the field, I have grass under and above me! Very bizarre feeling. Above me is like a mirror, which reflects the ground objects. Done cache deleting, reinstalling, extract with 7zip, options low some medium.

Any ideas?

Bet you the weird colours are down to the epilepsy filter being turned on. Switch it off and re-test.

S!

I did not unpack to steamapps folder, just extracted then copy/paste and worked just fine. Of course deleting cache etc. as preparation.
