For the last 15 hours German players can´t connect to steam and therefore can´t fly and the problem continues!!!
Man I paid a lot of money for my collectors edition and I´m being dictated by Valves incompetence!
I´m mad a s hell.
Why may I not start Steam games incl. CoD offline???
I think 1c should seriously consider a good alternative to Steam.

How about EA's Origin service?......

If you're thinking about a content delivery system similar to Steam, well, there isn't any. Period. As much as you may hate Steam, it's the best CDS as of today.
It's understandable that it's frustrating that you cannot connect and play. But again, there's few alternatives and right now I don't think 1C will swap platforms due to the fact that they actually make far more money selling their products over Steam compared to regular over-the-counter sales. And as usual, money talks, bovine excrement walks.

They could use Steam as a distribution service, no need to use it as copy protection/online service provider.

yes, due to server updates. You have to wait.
why do i have to wait to play a game that i purchased in a store...i own the physical disk and game box and piece of paper with my cd key....i never wanted steam...i just want to play the game that i purchased...no where on the game box did it say anything about steam...
also steam is BS.....
when i built new my computer (partially for clod) it took a few days to be able to play the game cuz for some reason i could not find my steam account that the game was registered (which i never wanted in the first place) I had to file a ticket (which in and of it self is a complicated BS procedure, had to register for yet ANOTHER account i didnt want, just to be able to play something that i lawfully purchased and OWN!!!
fix this garbage steam....ALLOW ME TO PLAY THE GAME THAT I PURCHASED WITH OR WITH OUT bs STEAM....
but i guess as a paying customer im a slave to the whims of the corporation and if the corporation wants to force me to use steam i guess as their slave i have to...(remember nothing on the box said anything about steam, it was a trap)

If you want to use their products, then yep, you're a slave to the corporation. But hey, nobody forced you to buy the product and you did so out of your own free will.
Hate Steam all you want, but you'll still have to deal with it if you want to play CLoD.

so why didnt it say so on the box...
so if i want to play i have to deal with steam....what happens when i cant play but still have to deal with steam???
again why didnt it say ANYTHING about steam on the box...where on the box did it say i was buying a product that would be tied to some third party software....
i just goes to show the mind set of the average individual consumer...who has zero dignity and is resigned to being a pawn of the corporations will....its a sad day for freedom loving people everywhere....
maybe i should sell a product, but neglect to say on the packaging, that they need another product to be able to use the one that they are buying....i wonder how that would go over in the REAL WORLD....i guess you people simply tolerate such things cuz you have no dignity....
also if im a slave to the corporation then i guess that gives me the right to kill them in order to regain my freedom....
well with that said, im loading up my magazines and headed to russia

If the last post weren't so pathetic it would be sad.
the only thing that is pathetic is the way corporations do business...i mean you have banks that steal billions and launder billions of dollars...and then are forced to pay only a fraction of that in fines....
you have MF global who stole their customers accounts...
we live in a fascist world....remember fascism at its most basic level is a merging of the state and corporations....
the abuses of corporations/govt go on and on...WE ARE ALL VICTIMS, of their criminal actions....but yea im the bad guy for pointing it out...
just keep paying your taxes to the IRS and federal reserve (remember IRS has REFUSED to go on record showing the actual law that requires you to pay)or to your "sovereign" queen (you see the queen is sovereign, you are a citizen or subject, thus you are a slave or a ward of the state)

but this whole idea that i can pay for something but need a third party service which the game is dependent on to work....a service that can go down at anytime, thus depriving me of my ability to use a product that i lawfully paid for, that to me is a problem....and if they get away with that now, what is next...having to buy the game and then a third party software in order to play the game....seriously people WAKE UP!

So you bought a product without actually checking the terms of use first, and if there were any catches with it? And more specifically: A software-product? Sorry, the cake is all over your face. I didn't bother buying the boxed version, since I had the brains to actually check around before I bought CLoD to see what methods of distribution were available.
Nobody held a gun to your head to get you to order CLoD. Nobody forced you, or tricked you into buying it. You bought the software of your own volition, and you can hardly blame 1C for not checking the details, which, as they say, is where the devil (in this case Steam) is.
Caveat Emptor, my friend. Look it up, learn it and understand it.
i could not find my steam account that the game was registered
Steams fault?

Since the steam was not accessable for 24h from Germany only, I just want to point out that the policy of paying software but not owning it, is not legal in Germany.
Therefore steam is obliged to give you offline acces to games you buy.
Offline mode can not be switched on when offline.

There are tons; it's the publishers who prevent them from flourishing. First of all there are several great platforms that don't require messed up 3rd party, like GoG, Gamersgate etc.
But then again, if it's just about contend distribution then Desura and Origin are definitely almost equal.
And no, Origin isn't worse than steam when it comes to privacy... ;)

False. See my post here: http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showpost.php?p=412174&postcount=10
And by the way, I'm German but my Steam worked. I even downloaded games and added games from an external game sale to my library...
Not sure what the issue was but since I can't confirm it.

I personally don't give that much thought or care toward privacy (I've long since stopped believing that privacy on the internet is an attainable thing), but I DO care a whole deal about functionality. And that's where Steam outshines Origin by an order of magnitude.

Maybe. But I still remember when Steam was forced down my throat back in the HL1 days. It was way crappier than Origin and this means there is hope.
Origin is basically a year old, Steam is ancient in age compared to it.
On top of that much of the "functionality" of Steam is useless to me (others may think different but I use about 10% of the features that Steam has and I'm basically a hardcore Steam user with tons of games and signed in daily...)
Also only balance can keep thinks level. The more strong platforms there are the better for us gamers.

" If you lose connectivity without Steam running you're not out of luck.
You may be able to go into offline mode but it might depend on if steam was once started in offline mode"
I don't wish to become embroiled in any form of argument on this forum but I would like to say that my recent experience is different. I simply could not get online and therefore could not put steam into offline mode. Believe me I tried all ways I could but either I'm consistently "unlucky" or steam was at fault. There is a third option that I must acknowledge but disagree with, that I am too stupid to work out how to do the necessary.
I do of course acknowledge there are probably sound business reasons for the current system employed by 1c, not least perhaps piracy prevention, and I want there to be sound flightsim businesses.
The OP is understandably frustrated about steam from my perspective. I know the irritation and sense of injustice stemming from the reasonable belief that I own a single or multiplayer product (or is it a license?) that for whatever reason, I am prevented from using.
I suspect this is not necessarily steam's intention and that there is either a fault or a poorly publicised and implemented system I have failed to use.
Septic.

steam has no effect on piracy...their are work arounds and the like for steam games that allow you to run them with out steam, bypassing all security...

Let me re-phrase my statement: The feature is there and yes, it's not a joke. It's supposed to work and works on all of my machines and my friends machines as well. Nothing is perfect though so it's perfectly plausible that it might not work for you but it's NOT intended and it's not necessarily Steams fault as you don't even know the reason. In other words: while Steam was causing trouble for you now it might also have been the game, your OS, your system configuration or whatnot.
In theory and for 99% of the people it works though. And I'm sure you did it right since there's nothing else to do than clicking on the button saying "Offline mode". It's probably just a bug.
You could try to get into contact with the support or check if there are logs. I don't experience Steam crashes.
And don't get me wrong, I'm not a Steam fanboy. I really dislike it. I just have a ton of games and use it daily since there's only a few alternatives. Hence I only reported that it has that feature and that it works. :P
