S! all,

This Subject might have already be done to death, but doing a Google search I cannot find a thread on this specific topic, not one that is less than 6 months old anyways.

I’m not sure how many others have this “problem” but I’ve heard a few people being exasperated by this on comms.

It seems to me that the 109 has the remarkable ability to disappear, just as the “dot” changes to the 3d polygon at around 2km, and then it re-appears at the 500-700m range, usually right on my tail;) None of the other aircraft seem to do this, although the 110 can beceom very difficult to see in this mid-range, but not to the extent of the 109.

What I think is happening is the following: The long-mid range textures for the 109 are completely,or close to, the sky-blue colour, whereas the same textures for all other aircraft take the dominant paint scheme fro that type/ skin –which in almost all aircraft types is brown (RAF) or dark green (LW). The 109 seems to be the only type with the skins to result in this little disappearing act.

I’m not arguing for longer dotrange here, the long distance dots are OK IMO. I addition, I know that camouflage is there for a purpose, and I have no issue with certain elements of difficulty with respect to aerial observation, but I do find it exasperating that I can have a perfect visual awareness of an aircraft at 1.5km, only to lose sight of that very same aircraft as it draws closer, all other conditions (weather, direction) remaining the same.

My suggests to remedy this, would be: 1. to have that set of texture/polygons that load at the greater distance to include more poly’s which represent the higher contrast elements of the airframe, 2. to increase the overall contrast or aircraft colouring

Does anyone else experience this? Are there monitor settings potentially at play here (lack of contrast)? Are there other suggestions for resolving this?Is this on the developer’s radar at all?

I take it your a red pilot. Red fighters do the same. Its nothing to do with colour. The dot literally does disapear for a few seconds before the polygon model appears.

Change MeshShowLod=0 to MeshShowLod=1 in the [core] section of the conf.ini file in \My documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover.

Be aware that the game will be moving more things on screen so you'll probably get less fps.

Thanks for the feedback farber. I don’t observe the same problem with red aircraft disappearing when they change from dot to polygon. And I also don’t observe this phenomena happening with other blue aircraft types (stukas in particular, which are smallish, don’t do this).

I look at red aircraft all the time when I’m flying and they don’t exhibit the same graphical responses as the 109 in particular. I would be very surprised if the visual effects with respect to the 109 were only observable from a red-aircraft cockpit, and not a blue one.

I’m going to do some more blue flying though, to see if the problem of spotting 109s is psychological… ;)

Fly a 109 long enough on line and your'll see red fighters doing it.

Do red aircraft disappear when you fly red?

It's a LOD problem. Has nothing to do with red or blue aircrafts, but rather with its dimensions.

I suffered it the first time flying in a Spitfire, couldn't see a squad mate flying in another Spit at a certain distance.

Ok I think we are talking about different issues then.

I do not have any problems with any aircraft (red or blue) , except for the light painted 109s.

Same issue here. But what I hate worse are the ghost dots.
