Yes, the times since the last patch have truly been medieval :)
Regarding the CTD we experience in our version now online I'm pretty sure they have fixed it as it seems to be related to texture loading that has been rewritten. I've been able to recreate the memory leak by switching skins on an aircraft, but only after flying one or more online sorties and doing it after being back on the ground after some action (and other textures/skins being loaded?). But not every time... Then it happens other times online too but it seems related to texture loading too as I at some occasions have found "half" skins after a crash just after the catching an enemy aircraft (maybe with a home made skin?)... I have reported these to Ilya ages ago with dumps and logs and he has responded back that they where looking at it for the patch so no new news...
Then it seems there where other problems that has caused CTD:s so I guess there has been many leaks - but the fact that the texture loading routine now is rewritten and runs on a separate thread sounds good! No more stuttering when users with funky home made skins join an online session either ;) I really would like to have an option to disable user skins and got a response from Ilya that they may include that...

The most common cause of CTD on my machine is when you open up the explorer box in the game - basically when you want to save a track or change the conf file. I cant complain given other peoples experiences.
As a budding pilot im hoping that the track file views (i.e. not fixed on full swith mode etc) may have been fixed so i can review my gross flying mistakes properly

Any future development would just be a matter of using the current engine which, hopefully, would be fully fixed by this upcoming patch and the handful (I'm guessing) that will come after it.

The majority of the CTD's that can easily be reproduced is when you fly multiple 2 and 4 engined aircraft close together by live players on a multi-player server for extended periods of time.
As long as they did a simple test and flew 4-6 multiple engine aircraft (preferably tested with more) operated by live players close together (ie formation) on a MP server for a couple hours or more without any CTD's then that would be solving the majority of the CTD issues for many.

Yes, of course. We have a group of testers was flying parallel to the old version and crash all the time. In the new patch it does not crash. Now all will test a large number of PCs you have different.
Well, "crash all the time" pretty much confirms that they accnowledge the leaks and online crashes, and that they are hopeful of having fixed them ;) I guess "is not flown" mean "does not crash"... Checked alternate translations and that was the case so I changed the text above.

Water isn't actually wet. Water is water. Wet is simply a perception experienced when a material previously not in contact with water becomes mixed with water in some way and the resultant change in its textural properties are recognised and subsequently recorded via language or the written word as 'wet'. Raaaid will concur ;)

The devs acknowledged the CTD's and memory leak already, so whats your problem?
First thing I should point out is that I never said the devs did not acknowledge there is a CTD with 'some' computers.
While we are on the subject, take note of what BS said wrt the CTD. BS is clear to point out that they are not experiencing any CTD's with 'their' PC. Translated means there is still a chance that some user PCs may still have a CTD issue! Which means even the devs admit that the CTD is PC depended.
So far so good?
Now lets look at what I did say
I questioned furb's 99% quote.. Why? Because we know that number has no real meaning.. It was picked out of thin air.. So truth be told we don't know what percentage of people are experiencing CTDs.
All we know for sure is that some people do and some people don't experience CTDs (based on previous thread in this very forum)
Which goes back to why BS did NOT say the CTD is fixed! Note he said they are not experiencing any CTDs on their PCs.. Two very different things! Which again means even the devs admit that the CTD is/was very PC depended.
All better now?

If you can remove the rose colored lenses for a sec, you will see he is talking about the old version which is what we are all flying now. What you posted is results from testing on the new patch version which none of us have yet. IE everyone has CTD's at some point. Memory leaks are universal and some might not experience them if they quit after every mission or limit their flying sessions. Also depends on how much memory someone has in their machine before they CTD when the leak fills it up.

That would make sense if Furbs said that 99% of the devs had CTD's on the patch their testing right now. He was talking about CTD's that we are having with what we are flying right now. In that case, 99% is an accurate statement. Let me know if your still struggling with this fairly simple timeline and I will bust out some crayons and put together some pie charts and flow graphs for ya.

The patch took so long because the CTD is PC-related, and thus the patch will be obliged to reconfigure every single PC on this earth to eliminate CTD's. Simple logics, guys.
Surely all Aces is saying is that just because the devs are not experiencing CTD's anymore it does not preclude the possibility that we will, I'm sure some bright spark will find a way to crash it that the devs have missed :)

If 10 testers have a range of PC's and they get CTD's all the time with our version of CLOD, then they apply the patch and now the CTD's have stopped and they have made no hardware changes to their PC's, what does that tell your about the CTD's?
am i missing something?
(by the way i made up the number of testers just in case i get jumped on again)

It tells me only a maximum of 10 different PC's have been tested with the patch, how many different setups do you think we have on this forum alone?
That in a very small test group it is 100% fixed, is it correct to assume that this means it is 100% fixed? Only if you have switched to being optimistic from the usual pessimism that pervades around here ;)

Well seems like eveyone is confused.. So allow me to clear this up
First things first
furbs stated that 99% of the people were experancing CTD
Which is NOT true
Based on posts in this very forum we know for a fact that some never experanced a CTD, and other only experanced them a few times
What that means is the CTD is very PC depended.
Just to be crystal, I am NOT saying the CTD is NOT a CoD bug, never have, never will! All I am pointing out is that it is PC depended.
And clearly I am in good company, because even BS went as far as to note that they are not experancing any CTD on 'thier' PCs. Which is another way of saying, we don't have every kind of PC combination out there at our disposale to beta test on, thus there is a slight chance that some people may still experance CTDs post patch. Why else would BS qualify the statment by saying 'on our PCs'?
Hope that helps!

Disagree
And just to be crystal, if what you are saying/selling is true, than furbs should have said 100%, which would also be in error. There is not enough data to say exactally how many people are or are not having CTD issues, all we know for sure is that some do and some dont

ACE i have no idea what percentage of people have CTD's, i pulled the number out of my bum.
I was trying to get across the majority of people are experiencing CTD's online just like the testers, i wanted to know if they tested the patch online which they have.
They say post patch that they have fixed the CTD's on their PC's which says to me the CTD was software related, now lets hope when they release the patch its them same for the majority of us.

I was trying to get across the majority of people are experiencing CTD's onlie just like the testers, i wanted to know if they tested the patch online which they have.
Just to be crystal, I don't think there is enough data to even say 'most'.
But based on past posts in this forum I would admit it apears to be about 2/3s do and 1/3 dont.
But we have to keep in mind that not everyone that owns CoD posts in this forum, thus even that is a skewed value.
Add to that the FACT that your poll on this subject was LOCKED becase of a few guys trying to promote the 100% CTD case were caught using multi handles to vote mult time and that number becomse even more worthlesss
They say post patch that they have fixed the CTD's on their PC's which says to me the CTD was software related,
Note I never said it was not software related! All I ever said is it is PC depended! Put another way, some PCs are more supseptable to the software bug than others.
now lets hope when they release the patch its them same for the majority of us.

I'm just trying to push the pre-patch euphoria down to realistic levels here, imagine the anti-climax when some people still are experience regular CTD's after the patch. As B6 and luthier themselves said in the update:
Finally, we need to mention the launcher.exe crashes. This was a very hard issue to address as it wasn't caused by a single 100% reproducible bug, but rather rare combinations of various uncommon events.
It wasn't a single bug that they could just locate and squash with a couple of lines of code but by re-writing the engine and optimizing it they have probably minimized the chance of CTD's to a ridiculously low level. I'm sure someone will still have a CTD or two after the patch but they will most likely be a lot less frequent and a lot less common.
P.S There never was a CTD bug, the whole game engine was the bug.

Which pretty much debunks anyone who ever thought of me as a fanboy! In that a true fanboy would be saying the following..
Guys, I now 1C has released paches in the past that had bugs in them, but, this is a new day and there is no chance what so ever they would release a patch with a bug in it! They said they tested this one.. I know I know they said they tested the past patches too.. and we still recived a bug, but this time is different!! Everyone I am telling you this patch will be different
Huh.. kind of sounds like furbs last post? So is it safe to say furbs is a fanboy now? ;)

Just curious Ace, are you saying a memory leak in the code will affect only certain hardware configurations? Memory leaks in software code generally affect 100% of the users. The "1/3rd" of the folks that don't experience CTD's as you say, might have 16gigs of ram and restart their game after every mission. That doesn't mean that their isn't a leak in the code on those 1/3rd, it just means they haven't run the game in one session long enough.

Right Furbs! that's what I'm trying to say. I've had CTD's -both often and sometimes just once- in so many other PC games I can't remember them all. CTD's are almost never caused by a single bug, it's as luthier said, a combination of many complex events and that's why it's hard to cure.
In fact, I'd like to tell about a typical example. It's about the game Farcry 2, I used to play that game to bits a couple of years ago and after almost exactly 50 minutes during each session the game crashed, EVERY TIME. The problem was a memory leak that was claimed to be fixed in a patch but never was.

Luthiers original statement insinuates there is more than 1 major reason CDT in the way of :
CDT's with this game are not "rare combinations of various uncommon events" beacuse our CDT (that keeps being refered to) has been reproduced many times and highlighted many times by users in this thread alone.
Meaning we have more than one reason for CDT happening.
Now, you lot are arguing over the wrong things yet again:
The CDT we know is solved, why? simple, because of the above statement alone shows that the users knew the CDT happening with a rough idea and were able to stave off that CDT by doing various things, If we knew it I'm certain the Devs figured that out and fixed it.
The CDT they are refering to is probably a different one that was very hard to reproduce but luckily hasnt happened so far on their systems.
To be fair lets hope it does happen on the beta so we can flag it and they can fix it.
Oh yeah and stop behaving like a bunch of fools each fighting their case like it is actually going to change anything. If we get CDT we get CDT thats what BETA's are all about.
