Not sure if anyone here will know but i've noticed the Koreans are selling a cheap 27" monitor 2560 x 1440 for $300 .. but it only has a single DVI-D dual link connection. My 2 x GTX 580 GPU cards have 2 x DVI-I and 1 mini HDMI connections...
Will this monitor work on my computer? do i need to buy a special cable 2 x DVI-I plugs join into 1 DVI-D dual plug?

Your DVI-I connectors should be also dual link, or you wouldn'd be able for 2560x1600 with one DVI-I Cable.
Just buy a DVI-D Dual link cable put it on the monitor and into your DVI-I slot of your graphics card.
Don't try to put the DVI-I cable into DVI-D slot of the monitor. It will not work, because the ground pin by DVI-I is bigger than DVI-D Slot.
In Short:
DVI-D cable(pins) + DVI-I graphic card(slot) = OK
DVI-I cable(pins) + DVI-D monitor(slot) = false
PS: I also have a DVI-D cable on my HD6990(DVI-I) because the monitor has only DVI-D. Res: 1920x1200.

Thanks! you seem to be the first person who knows what he's talking about .. but i've just re-read the advert, it mentions something about an add-board? (by pass monitor ?).. and mentions DVI dual port works only ? (see picture)

If you look into Wikipedia and search for DVI, you might find this Pic.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fb/DVI_Connector_Types.svg
There it shows:
DVI-I single and dual (those ones with the 4 pins on ground)
DVI-D Single and dual (those without 4pins on ground[big pin], groundpin is also smaller)
If you have a DVI-D cable with 8x3 small pins, then its dual (the one you need).
Just to make sure you understand what I ment: You need [B]one DVI-D (dual link) cable. Not 2 cables and no additionally adapters.
Monitor-sLot: DVI-D (dual link slot) + Cable-pins: DVI-D (dual link pins) + VGA-slot: DVI-I (dual link slot) = OK
Any other cable won't work.
Or You by one of these adapters (http://www.sourcingmap.de/dvid-stecker-auf-dvii-buchse-adapter-p-66361.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=froogle&utm_campaign=defroogle) for your already existing DVI-I (dual link) cable, which nearly costs the same as the cable (http://www.amazon.de/DVI-D-Kabel-polig-DUAL-LINK/dp/B001BWSBXO/ref=sr_1_3?s=ce-de&ie=UTF8&qid=1333813278&sr=1-3)....

yeh, ok -D and -I are red-herrings, the only thing you need to know is - Dual-Link .. and it works perfectly!
CLOD @ 2560 x 1440 on a 27" looks VERY impressive!

Correct
The difference between the two is DVI-I incorporates DVI-D plus also an additional separate analog signal to make the connector backwards compatible with older standards like VGA. Note how the four analog connectors on the LHS of the DVI-I diagrams above are missing on the DVI-D diagrams.
Basically, unless you are using an old analog screen or similar analog device (and hence will need DVI-I plus a special analog dongle) there is no difference as the digital pin-outs are identical on both standards.
