This is a screen shot I did today in version 4.11 of IL2 46. Moscow 1 map, time 11am, weather clear, cloud height 3000m, default skin and markings

And here is the screen shot that Black Six posted in this weeks dev update.

I agree, the screenshots are close if you don't look at the details. When your pissed at a subject you generally don't notice the details that would disprove pissyness. lol

I think it's a testament to the original game and its updates that the models look so similar. If we could insert larger textures into the il2 skins the difference would really be marginal. It's only when you look around the edges of the wing tips that you can see the original is a lower poly model.
Obviously the ground textures, buildings and trees are significantly different.

If you look closely you'll notice that the houses are still the european town houses and not the russian rural buildings we've been shown. To me that indicates that the map is in its infancy, actually it has just wailed for the first time. Lots of things to do for the map makers.

Yeah same here, it's not just the graphics though it's the whole feel of flight that has elevated CloD beyond anything else, just like IL-2 did all those years ago.

Yep. They look absolutely nothing like each other, other than the sky is blue and it's an Il2 in the air.
I don't always think it is necessarily indicative of an agenda at play, mind.... some people are just a little "Special".
I was looking at a CloD video on youtube the other day about 109s and someone had commented:
"You have to manually crank the flaps? THIS is why I won't play Cliffs of Dover! Manually controlled flaps are stupid....... Rise of Flight FOREVA!!!"
Or something along those lines anyway....... :D Rather like moaning about Silent Hunter 5 with "Whaddya mean the submarine can't fly??? LOSERS!" :D
People....... and folks wonder why I don't like leaving my home....

Not really, original had snow on roofs:-P:cool:
I also heard a lot of complaining about CloD terrain before release, based purely on a handful of pictures Oleg gave us. Banana forum turned into the most active site of scientific debate about England's botanics and ecology. What's the situation now. I haven't seen a hate thread about CloD terrain for quite a while.
IMO, the combination of light, colour and models in CloD reach almost the photorealistic level. That's why I barely fly 1946 now, despite tons of interesting features made by TD and modders. Well, sometimes I do fly night mission in modded 1946, since the feeling hunting in the darkness is priceless.
Short version of my post: developers do not know how to make an aristic-touched screenshot :))

No arguments about the terrain now because some people told them it didn't look enough like England, so they changed it.

Yes the CloD screenshot looks better. But it's the stuff you can't see that make Clod better. It's the awesome engine sounds, the insanely detailed damage model, the very deep CEM, flames coming from the engine exhaust (this still blows my mind). Add up all these things together and this is why that 2nd screenshot is the best :)
Agree. When planes are moving fast, you don't necessarily notice 3d model details the same way you do from static screenshots. But the improved damage model, new effects like smoke from MGs when a plane is firing etc. clearly improve the game.
Still, it's advances that make AI planes fly better etc. that I appreciate most. If planes and ground units behave more realistically (as if a human player was controlling them), those mean more to me than more and more polygons. And of course playability features that allow creating better missions.

While it does look better than the old Il-2, the changes in the graphics engine introduced in the last patch was a huge step back in how the lighting is used in the game.

CloD looks better then that too in my honest opinion, easly, even with a place holder map. The detail on the plane itself is where it's noticeable, also the lighting really is miles ahead, and of course as a lot of people here have pointed out ( which some people here like to ignore) it's what YOU DON"T SEE that really makes COD light years ahead.

The COD pic is the one with the jaggy edges and no anti aliasing...right? LOL...jk. COD does look more detailed but that should not suprise many considering the how old the 1946 engine is.

back to the pictures...
The map is very WIP, and it is not even the new graphic sytem...
So the only comparison possible between the two pictures is the detail of the IL-2, and that looks good !

Yes the graphics patch is a misnomer. Most of the performance issues appear to be found in the graphic engine, hence calling it the graphics patch. It should have been called the performance patch, where they are improving the fps, and other performance degradation issues, which hopefully includes fixes for the CTD's etc. I would imagine the slow fps, stutters, memory leak, and CTD's roots are closely related.
